Right, so for those who don't know, I'm at what we joking refer to a hippie environmentalist school right now. It's actually a science school, mainly on applied ecology and environmental science.
What I'm noticing is how incredibly useful knowledge of ecosystems and biospheres and their consequences are in world-building settings. I haven't done much in-depth work with it in sci-fi yet, since I've not done intense planet-building, but I've been doing it for Rhoronen in my Ainaan overhaul. Starting with the ecology of an area and doing in-depth building is incredibly useful. It makes you look at the environment and its shape on the culture, and culture grows organically from there.
So, this thread is dedicated to the science of ecosystems and natural environments, including urban ecology, which is incredibly interesting. So, I'll start by leaving some links that might be helpful to peruse.
