I am currently writing my story... If any of you want to be alpha readers to ensure it adheres to the canon, you are more than welcome. I am sure it will also help to develop the world, too.

I'd love to be an alpha reader. If only to get a feel for where someone else is going in this universe. I have written a few bits of my story, and have the basic plot hammered out, but haven't started writing seriously. I have so many projects I don't know what to try to tackle first.

But I would definitely love to be an alpha reader for this story! :D

I'll just post the link here for whoever wants it.

As you can see, it still needs to be named... right now it's just called 'CF Story." Also, this is writing in its rawest form....... I don't think I've even read over this more than once or twice. So, be slow to judge. (;

Would it be possible for a relic to give a man glowing energy wings?

Hi guys. So I read through all sixteen pages of stuff you guys wrote here and all of it, like Karthmin's character- Thomas Cathar, and the actual backstory of the city, is very well developed and interesting.
So if you don't mind, I'd like to hop on the train, if that's okay.

I had a character- a kid- named Andy. I was going to build my own universe/ story place for him and his friends on my own, but I love the world you guys have here!
Anyway, Andy is a kid who grew up on stories of heroes, like Sentinel and Pangaea, for example. However, the stories of heroes were all that was left, as the heroes had gone away. Andy grew up right on the edge of the nastier part of Crystal Falls, and saw a lot of crime. So he decided, in a kind of young, optimistic way, that he would be like the boy with his finger in the dike and fill the place of the departed heroes.

One other thing: he doesn't have any powers. As in, he ran outside the Negation Zone to see if he had powers. He didn't.

The Negation Zone is public knowledge, right? I saw on the timeline that scientists discovered it in the 80s. Which leads me to ask: Have they or have they not noticed its decline. I would assume that they have been actively studying it as that would be totally cool to study.

Okay. So he doesn't get killed on day one, (he can't dodge bullets, after all) Andy uses his science know-how, (especially physics knowledge) and designs a program that can predict the movement of any object within its sensors' range. And then gets some help (without saying exactly what for) finding a way to send that information directly to the part of his brain that controls reflexes.

He finishes this at age fifteen, months before the Zone goes kaput.

For people who were born or spent the majority of their formative years in the NZ, simply running out would not be enough to determine their dynamic potential. The NZ does not alter genetics so people could be born with the right genetic code that would give them powers if they weren't inside the NZ, it merely suppresses them. So, in theory, if enough time were spent outside of the NZ, the person's genetic reality might reassert itself eventually. This takes a great deal of time, however depending on the nature of the person's dynamic ability. For some it might be months, for others it might take years, and for some their abilities might never manifest without the aid of precipitating circumstances (moments of high adrenaline, exposure to radiation, certain viruses, etc.). So simply hopping out wouldn't necessarily prove that they aren't dynamically gifted.

However, none of that is common knowledge. In fact, most of what the common, everyday people know/believe about the NZ is riddled with urban legend and misinformation. For instance, they all think that the Falls are the source of the NZ, the government has kept the Sentinel Stone (which is the true source of the NZ) a secret.

Is the decline of the NZ common knowledge? The prediction of its decline is on your timeline, so I guess I'm asking how public that theory was made.

It is and isn't public knowledge. There are rumors. The wealthy buy out the property closest to the heart of the NZ in an inverted suburban exodus, and people in the old zone suddenly and slowly discover their powers working. But the city officials (particularly the mayor) try to keep it under wraps to prevent panic and make themselves look good.

Also...the timeline is a rough draft that is a bit out-dated. I'm currently drafting a revised history that should make everything a little neater, more cohesive, and more stable...if I ever finish it :P

Old zone = lazy-Seerspeak for the area once encompassed by the NZ that now lies outside of it thanks to the NZ's slow decline.

So is the negation zone still in effect around the falls, or has it dissipated completely?

The falls aren't the source of the NZ, people just think they are.
The real source is the Sentinel Stone.

But to answer your question, the NZ dissipates slowly over a 10-15 year period and at the end dissipates altogether.

How big did the negation zone become before it started to decline? At what rate did the radius of the Zone shrink?

We don't really have things assigned as tasks, per se, but people tend to gravitate to what they find most interesting. For Seer, that's worldbuilding. For me, it's characters. Wherever suits you best, just go for it.

Just out of curiosity... did we know about this: "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Falls,_Michigan"?

Heads up for everyone, the timeline is undergoing some much-needed revisions (and has been for a few months now). I hope to have it posted by the end of next week, but until then, don't get too sold on any specific dates in your stories because these revisions will probably mess them up. :P

Ah, the complications of group story world-building...

Thanks for the heads up, Seer. :D

Holy crap I am really into superheros myself and have quite a few superhero characters Ideas I have worked out.

So what I am saying here is Where do I sign up.

And how world breaking would it be for me to begin working on an alternate city for the world? More like a Gotham, or Central City, to Crystal Fall's Metropolis.

Sign up right here!

For the most part right now, we're still focusing specifically on Crystal Falls until it's well fleshed out and there's enough writers to develop another city. I'm not sure this one is really such a Metropolis either. It's somewhere between Gotham and Metropolis. That's how I see it, anyways. Some people might have some different perspectives, which we can flesh out by working on various neighborhoods.

Ok, here is my idea.

The Prophet:

Originally a struggling young artist. One day the Prophet is visited by a man who claims to be an angel of the lord. Being a vary sane and rational person the Prophet initially believes this man to be crazy. However for seven days the Prophet receives strange dreams, on the seventh the angel returns and recounts every dream for the Prophet, and tell the Prophet what each dream means. Again the Prophet is skeptical, but as each of the Angels predictions come to pass the Prophet finds theme self unable to deny the truth any-longer.

The Prophet is a snarky though not cynical individual. While not initially particularly religious, the Prophet has had a close if somewhat tumultuous relationship with the creator for most of there life. Now that they are in fact the Prophet of God things are actually quite a bit more rocky. Sometimes the responsibility can be a bit much, and the Prophet can at times find themselves questioning their own sanity.

What is his power as a dynamic? What are the topics of his prophecies? How did he become a Christian?

Have you ever read The Prophet by Frank Peretti?

He is not a Dynamic... I was thinking that his abilities are purely supernatural, if examined in any way a Dynamic might be the technology would say the Prophet is completely normal.

As far as having powers the Prophet has Prophetic Dreams, a sort of Supernatural Intuition, and the ability to Interpret Dreams. I hesitate to say the Prophet can perform miracles but maybe. In addition the Prophet may have a sort of Guardian Angel, who gives him cryptic advice and could even work as a sort of second half in a buddy cop type dynamic. Though likely any such character would only appear briefly to dispense info and then disappear like Batman annoying the Prophet to no end.

When facing super-villains the Prophet is more of a tactician and maybe even a bit of a Mastermind. The Prophet rarely works alone as their powers are more about knowledge than giving them any real tangible powers. Due to this Limitation The Prophet usually uses their supernatural intuition to outsmart and outplay the bad-guys, using objects in the environment to take the edge, and never being ashamed to call in help from one of his more powerful allies when he needs some muscle. The Prophet may be able to call animals to their aid though, that might be cool.

The Prophet is was Christian when I say they are not very religious I mean they are kind-of the more casual Christian that most people are. This changes a bit as they grow as a character. A lot of the Prophets own arch's with be about dealing with doubt, But I think the Prophet could also be used in the same capacity as Doctor Strange with the Defenders. Gathering together heroes for "Crossovers". As well as being a staple supernatural character in the vain of a more reverent Constantine. Acting as a a sort of supernatural detective maybe? Whenever I think of the idea of Christian superheros I think, How do I do something that is not Bible-man, what can I do that makes the character interesting and not just a psycho beating villains with a Bible. I have always been fascinated with the Prophets and Judges of the Old Testament and have wanted to give them a more modern spin. What would a Prophet be like in our modern world.

I have considered maybe having one of their parents coming form a Jewish family.

Also I began it and never finished it. I have it still though.

Sounds cool! Name is straightforward and easy to remember. So your concept is like, say, a modern Joseph?

I do like the idea of having times where he suddenly doesn't have supernatural help, so that when he starts getting overconfident and all, he gets reminded from where his help comes (not himself).

PS as to Christian superheroes, what sets them apart from other superheroes is their worldview: (ie: not helping those in need when we can is a sin against the person in need and against God (James 4:17), faith is lived out through our works (James 2:14), etc.)

Yeah, A lot like Joseph. However I dislike the idea of him loosing his aid due to getting overconfident I don't think God would put innocents in danger, just because his messenger gets a big head. Or at least I don't like the idea. However having it where his powers do not work when he attempts to abuse them could be interesting. Signing up to gamble only to loose a truck load of money, all the while getting cautious urging's from his angelic adviser, could be a good laugh. Or even have a streak of bad luck when turning from a task he does not wish to do Jonah style.

There are a lot of ways you can go wrong with the characters concepts but I think as a supernatural agent he could be interesting.

Some further notes.

Maybe Tongues: The Ability to speak and be understood by anyone in there native tongue, or to understand others as if they too spoke his native tongue.

"My, Your French is impeccable!"

"I don't know any French?"

"That is eerie."

The Mantle of Prophecy: A Prophet is not a single Character, the Role of Prophet can be passed on should the character die or otherwise leave the role. It may even be possible for Multiple Prophets to exist at the same time, Though I cant think of anytime this has happened in the bible, its hard to think there may be only one Prophet at any given time in the entire world. I mean this may have worked for the ancient Jew's but Christians are much more numerous.

I was thinking about the Negation Zone today. It really could cause some weird phenomena. For example, (if my understanding of its function is correct) a forest fire started by a pyrokinetic dynamic would cease at the edge of the Zone. This could result in trees that were burned completely on one side, and remain alive and healthy on the other.

(At least initially, that is. This wouldn't really happen after the Zone starts fading because the lines get blurred, right?)

Ok, so there was some controversy surrounding my idea for a Prophet character. Well I have an idea that falls into a similar vein but works off of more of a Superhuman element than a truly miraculous one. This is based on an idea I had discussed on the Sci-FI forums that actually went over quite well. So here it goes.

Joseph Johnson AKA Listener

In essence his dynamic power is to hear the song of creation. The vibrations given off by everything in the universe. The idea is a lot like the Song of the Spheres and is based off my rough comic book-like understanding of quantum physics. With this ability Listener has near prophetic-like abilities. Though not actually the gift of prophecy.

On actuality Joseph's powers have a lot more to do with cause and effect. Joseph can perceive how everything in the universe is connected and how those connections interact. This allows him to essentially know what will happen if he does A to B with C. Mathematically speaking A+B+C=D. Though he cannot predict the way a person might react with a great deal of certainty, or even an animal to a much lesser degree (a dog is a lot less predictable than a rock). After all people have free will and decide their place in the great symphony. (I know some denominations don't agree with that but you could just say people are less predictable if you wanted to avoid the issue.)

What do you think? I might repost this in powers if you'd prefer.

I cant really say never heard of the Mad Thinker sounds like a Doctor Who villain.Or a DC D lister.

Anyways I was thinking he might have been a struggling musician who went deaf. However during an attempt at suicide he feels the vibrations from a nearby concert, Beethoven ninth symphony, and finds him self "Listening to the vibration" all night only once the concert had ended he kept listening all through the night and on until the morning. Finding a new outlook on life, and awakening to his power. Vary Beethoven I think, and a deeply spiritual experience.

Also maybe some probability manipulation?

The Mad Thinker is a Fantastic Four villain who is a mathematical genius and can pretty much predict everything.

On second thought, your character sounds (get it?) more like Quake, a vibration powered/sensing super do-gooder.

I think he was talking about this post, which explains most of the basics that you need to know to get started.
