I've been told there should be a thread on Necromancy, so I made one.
I guess this is a thread of open discussion on the subject of corpse manipulation. I do hope that I, along with any other people fairly knowledgeable on the subject, can help you develop a necromancy in your creations. Just post your contributions here, I suppose.

Do also tell me if I'm doing this right.

WRONG! WRONG! YOU'RE ALL WRONG!

Well, now that I got that out of the way...

I don't use zombies much, but some of my use of vampires might qualify.

What sorts do you prefer?

Do your vampires have a will, or are they being controlled? I'm pretty sure a zombie has to be ordered around in most cases, along with the original zombie being from locales where voodoo was practiced. A zombie, in those regions, was a person who was controlled by someone who would theoretically cast a spell on them while the victim was asleep, or sometimes dead.

Most of my vampires have freewill, so I suppose it doesn't really count. In Dracula, the vampire has a similar ability to influence animals and his victims to do his bidding to some degree. That is more similar to voodoo, since they are still alive. I play with that sort of thing in Quicksilver, but I don't often have magic in my worlds.

Could necromancy be a natural or elemental magic as well as a sort of soul magic? It could be that the necromancers simply have an excellent understanding of the human body and know how to manipulate brain function to cause the desired responses. Or is could be something like blood bending in Avatar.

The brain function aspect would be interesting. I'll have to think more on that one.

Necromancy could possibly be control over weak/deteriorating organic substances, as that's what a cadaver is. Either way necromancy is up to the author.
