I have three very consistent moons in Lor-Amar, one is small and pink, one is small and blue, and the other is large and pure white. Basically, I'm assuming one has more more of a certain mineral compound than the others, giving it a different shade, probably coming into alchemy later on, blah blah blah, anyway!

What if there were only one moon, but it changed color? That could be for magical or supernatural reasons, or maybe it has some semblance of an atmosphere that gets certain radiation or meteorites depending on the time of year (or randomly).

When you think about how much humanity (no matter the culture) talks, thinks, and watches our simple moon, how much more would a color changing moon play into other cultures? It could perhaps play into seasonal predictions, maybe work different sorts of mutations into the werewolves (or into different were creatures based on the color), give many religions something to talk about and form traditions around, so much could change. Imagine the poetry!

That is a fascinating idea, Rin! I like it. Or if you had a different planet even that changed color...like one that regularly passes through an asteroid belt or something, so it changes colors like clockwork....

*Ponders* Would it have some kind of weird atmosphere to make it reflective, or would it be a rather metallic planet? I imagine from the non-planet side of the moon it would be a little hard to spot because it would reflect the stars.

Well, the moon already glows because it reflects sunlight, so I suppose if it were as reflective as a mirror, it would be like a second sun, perhaps magnified or focused.

I also recall reading somewhere (can't find a source right now...) that how reflective the moon is - its albedo - affects how bright it is, just like you said. So a moon made of ice, for instance, would have a higher albedo (e.g. be more reflective) and thus it would be brighter. The Wikipedia page on albedo has a lot of interesting details about it, though not much about moons.

Maybe, if the moon has an ecosystem, it changes color seasonally, if it has global seasons.

Oo, now that's a cool idea...You could also have other natural events, like dust storms, volcanic eruptions, etc. that change the moon's color.

It would have to be very cataclysmic though, if you want something that would change the atmosphere of an entire tiny planet.
