Yes, he has two grown up daughters. They are both married. He also has loose relations, cousins and similar things, here and there.

He... kind of just has position related, work related, favor related, status related friendships. He doesn't have anyone he is friends with just because he is friends with them. He is closest to one of his grownup daughters.

How long did it take him to reach the rank of General?
Quite a long while at first, to rise in the attention of the powerful, but after he began to actually push he got the rank fairly quickly. He ahd made the right preparations.

How does he interact with his soldiers?
He, eh... well, his relationship with his soldiers is actually rather odd. At this particular point in time (the point that i'm writing about) his soldiers are actually mostly embarrassed to be his soldiers. He treats them well enough, gives them fair opportunity for valor and skill without throwing their lives around, and is a relatively capable military man (though his skill is actually divided between military and political). However, he does not conform to the... ehm, the colony pride. At least not as much as most colonists. Also, rumors of his questionable moral quirks get around a bit too – things that don't fit with the popular sins of the day, if you know what I mean, and therefore aren't accepted. People might respect him as a political leader, but they don't much respect him as a man.
So, yeah. That's what his soldiers think about him, and they really aren't that proud to be in his particular soldiery. They don't openly flout him or disrespect him, though.

Does all his secrets cause him trouble?
He pretends he doesn't have them, so nobody bothers him, usually.

It has caused him trouble a bit though, when the secret isn't something he's actually supposed to know. It worries him more because he could get in trouble if he let out in any way what he knew.

Is he rich? Since he supports his 'army'?
Yep. Most political men are at least relatively rich, and are able to do all the 'things'. Poor people pretty much don't get into politics.
He doesn't support it
entirely himself, though, the soldieries do things to earn money sometimes when there is not an active war yet or when funds are tight.
Thankyou! This is really helping so far.
