So I'm thinking of making my Faerie a kind of Leathing, rather than a typical Faerie. It would be half bug, mostly dragonfly, butterfly and spider *jumping up and down with anticipation of the possibilities*. Here's a link to my Leathing page, viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3806. After you make your choice please elaborate on why you chose what you chose.

"Well...that isn't so bad."

Well, in what habitat would they normally live in? Can they fly? What do they eat? Are they sentient? Do they live in swarms or alone? How do they interact with other species? What are their normal habits of and as a result of predation?
Symbiosis? Magic?

They would live wherever a Human could. The dragonfly and butterfly guys would fly. They would eat either bug food or human or both. ;) They would be sentient as are all Leathings. They have mostly a Human nature just combined with, in this case, a bug. They would be a tribe of Leathing but otherwise just like a Leathing in terms of interaction with others. I think they would be magical but I haven't thought out magic for my book yet.

Just to clarify. They don't eat humans, right?

Could you explain this a little more. Do they have bug nature? If so, what is bug nature?

Thanks! :dieshappy:

No they would not eat Humans. Um, for example a half spider Leathing would have mostly human nature with some spider like traits such as in battle they would be more wait and ambush than charge into battle.

Thanks, that makes sense. How big are they? Because I see these guys in inches, now I am rethinking this.

They would be about 1-2 feet tall, but I keep imagining 6 foot monsters swarming over the walls of a castle...

If they are Leathings then there will be 3 kinds, dragonfly, butterfly and my favorite, spider. (which is kinda ironic because I'm afraid of spiders)

Could you specifically describe the phenotype of these creatures?

These are really cool. :D

Would Butterfly-Leathing be non-violent?

Would Dragonfly-Leathing have Dragon like tendencies?

The butterfly guys would be called Leath-Féileacán, and I think they might be more non-violent healer types. I don't know what the Dragonfly guys would be called, but what do you mean about

I'm... not sure. :P

Would it have any characteristics a Dragon might have? Or does the Dragonfly only have Dragonfly characteristics?

Um, the traits would basically vary, exactly like how traits of spiders would vary spider to spider.

OK. Are there any kinds of spider not known on earth?

I don't think so. The thing is that there is probably a Leathing for every animal on Earth, or whatever my world will be called.

I know this is a little off topic but it will help; is there a reason for that? Is your world connected with ours in any way?

What do you think of as a normal faerie?

Ever read The Book Of Names by D. Barkley Briggs? My Faerie would be similar. Aeleknight, the reason is just because Leathings are half animal and there are an incredible amount of ways I could use them. My world will have no connection to ours.

I think a Leathing would be a really cool idea. It's more interesting and has a cool feel about it. I say go for it. :)

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” –C. S. Lewis

OK. I like that idea. Leathings are great and original. I think you should use them if you can. Go with your idea. Go Leathing.

Ok, sorry I took awhile to get back to you guys, I was at camp. Briggs' Fay are fairies but they are incredibly selfish, and so can be cruel, they don't understand humans, and they are very powerful as well as beautiful.

Daniel, would these Leathing Faeries be evil or good? Or just bloodthirsty savage little things that kill anything?
