I have this race, called the Toxati: The Toxati are humanoids, people with certain elephant-like features. Their skin is rough, a light brown-gray color with small, blurry patches of darker brown-gray. Although this race doesn’t have hair, near their ears, short horns grow. The horns are about 5 inches long, a creamy color, and curl behind their head. Their nose is long and pointed, and their large eyes are deep-set, with blue irises. The long ears that narrow towards the back have excellent hearing, which is important to the Toxati. All of their limbs are thick and muscular; made for endurance with strength. It takes 1.25 times the force to injure a Toxati, as they can repair themselves 1.25 times faster than an average human being. The Toxati, with a rather long lifespan of 180 - 200 years, grow taller, up to about 6.5 to 7 feet tall. The Toxati have an irrational fear of tight spaces. The Toxati has a whole bunch more information, but some of it might not fit in this topic. |

I'd like to hear that "whole bunch more information" especially if it includes anything about their culture. Oh, you're not prodding. But remember that you can always edit your posts if you left something out or find a typo. |

Ahhh, thank you. Here's some more of their culture: Abodes: Since Toxati have big frames, their houses must be built to accommodate it. An average doorframe is 4 feet wide, and eight feet tall. Average ceiling height is 15.5 feet at the peak, and 10 feet at the wall’s top. Cathedral ceilings are common, even for the poor folk. Each room must be at least 100 square feet, by their standards, and each person must have sleeping quarters that are that dimensions or larger. The kitchen and dining room are combined into one, since, they eat not on tables, but on mats in a circle. The food is placed on a low platform in the center of this circle. Upon first entering the house, one is standing in the Great Room, a large area for families to gather. On the left is a doorway leading into the hall of bedrooms, and on the right is the kitchen/dining room. Straight ahead is the washing room; wealthy families have the well located inside this room. Cooking: The Toxati race is widely known for their flatbreads, sugary pastries, and pasta. This race farms for a living, and because of that their countries have a massive percentage of grain production(about 69.1%). Because their lands are mostly fields and grasslands, only low numbers of cattle, chicken, and hogs live in captivity there. The few facilities that own such animals for their meat sell them at high prices. However, meat is common in regards of rabbit, deer, and the rare bear. Most poorer families capture these animals, especially deer, as they run rampant in the forests and plains. Only the higher class can afford meat products from captivity. The most common foods eaten by Toxati: Sweet Buns Rabbit Barley Bread Carrots Rutabaga Cabbage Coleslaw Cornbread Flatbread And then the higher class foods: Bread Pudding Bacon Steak Cranberry Muffins Blueberry Muffins White Flour Bread Carrots Candied Apples Coated Cherries Turkey Sweet Potatoes Mangoes The richer class enjoy a wider variety of foods than the common people, mainly because servants and traders pay attention to the richer class more. Thus, pineapples, mangoes, cranberries, and candy coating are usually seen in the homes of the rich only. The drinks that Toxati vary by class, but in general the richer you are, the less variety of drinks you can get; poor have less constraints on alcoholic drinks. The poor class: Cider Ale Tea Wine The poorer class is allowed to drink alcoholic drinks, but the rich cannot drink it under any circumstances. The richer class: Spiced Cider Coffee Milk Hot Chocolate I may have spent too much time on their cooking culture... |

I really like them! A few questions: Sir Vivace Kondrael wrote: The poorer class is allowed to drink alcoholic drinks, but the rich cannot drink it under any circumstances. For what reason? Sir Vivace Kondrael wrote: The long ears that narrow towards the back have excellent hearing, which is important to the Toxati. Why is it important to the Toxati? Is it for hunting? Or when war comes(If they ever go to war?)? Or just for plain old communication? I like their horns! |

@Danko #1: The common folk of this society believes (and aren't wrong) that alcoholic drinks impair judgement. Thus, the higher class cannot drink such fluids without being removed from office by the commoners. (it's also just for culture) #2: Mostly because they need good hearing for when they're on the hunt, but otherwise regular communications are easier. @Elly The Toxati have an irrational fear of tight spaces, which is the only reason they actually need that much space per room. But they make good use of that space, with massive libraries and cathedrals taking up whole streets of a city; and the buildings are so large that it's almost like being alone. (which is why Etavke was scared to death in the treasure hunt) |

I have more of their culture: Transportation: Mainly transport is the two-wheeled wagon, pulled by a donkey. However, this mode of transportation is limited to at maximum, a low mud road. For off-road travel and when the roads are almost impassable, llamas serve as single-person transport. Horses are reserved for the highest of classes, as the number of horses is low. Trading: The Toxati trade with the Sheniolaens for their animal products, in exchange for metal items. They have uses for the meat, furs and horn which the Sheniolaens don’t━rather, they can’t eat meat, so it’s exported to the Toxati. Also, spice merchants, and beverage transports have large market, since many beverages must be imported from other places; especially the spiced beverages manufactured in warmer areas. The Arts: Starting with sculpture, the Toxati detest any sort of humanoid figure made 3d. However, they have no qualms against carving non-humanoid figures from any sort of material, even if the object makes no sense at all. Besides, the Toxati have a taste for weird, random statues, particually of abstract trees and mountains. Next, with actual paintings, the Toxati remain picky. They insist that all drawings must be of humanoid figures, and that landscapes must not have any sort of humanoid figure in it, except animals. Like the sculptures, paintings follow the same abstract pattern. With science, the government steps in. All scientific research must be approved by the government, or be funded by some sort of public business; for example, a library funding a private scientist to develop anti-rotting paper. Other forms of research, like astronomy, isn’t protected by the government, and so may Toxati study astronomy. The greatest star charts of Tinted Lands were made by Toxati artists and scholars. Believe it or not, cooking is classified as an art under Toxati eyes. Schools host cooking as one of thir many classes, besides the common astronomy course. This race has a knack for producing some of the best scholars and cooks in history, annoying the other races greatly. |

I like the sound of this race, Ace! Very well-developed and interesting. What is their family life like? As far as how many children they usually have, how the family dynamics work, etc. |

For the most part, families are limited to only 3 children maximum, with little family time where everyone is together. This is a segregated culture, and so the children are treated like adults. |
