I just got iThoughts, a mindmapping app that really helped (and is continuing to help) me organize my thoughts, brainstorms, inspirations and notes in a really cool way, here's an example of what one looks like: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36332877/Example.html , each of those bubbles can hold a note (which you can see by hovering over them, try it!), links to resources (if you click on it, it takes you to the thread I mentioned), or links to other maps. What I like about this app is that everything can be spread before me, if I just thought of something that would be cool to add to my centaur's culture, I just make a "child topic" that leads from the Centaurs topic and call the child topic "Culture" and then put down my thoughts in it so that it looks like: Vadra--->Peoples---->Centaurs---Culture. I tap culture and then I can see the notes on the culture of my centaurs.
A much more thorough explanation of the app can be seen here, it might help my fantasy oriented explanation make more sense: http://www.ithoughts.co.uk/iThoughts/Ge ... arted.html
I know that not everyone thinks as chaotically as I do, but I hope this helps some of you as much as it's helping me! It's for iphone, ipod touch, or ipad. The iphone/ipod version is $7.99, but it's worth it! If you like this kind of note-taking, but don't have an idevice, you might want to look up some computer mindmapping programs. I hope this is helpful to someone!

Hey, Wolf! I moved this from GD to World Building, because it fits slightly better here. :D

Ok! I was trying to decide which would fit better, but the world building forum seemed to be different from my contribution, so I thought I'd play it safe and go with GD. Thanks, your moderating powers are appreciated! :D

Jay introduced me to bubbl.us, which is similar but not as handy as this app seems to be.

Yeah, if you have an ipod touch, iphone, or ipad, iThoughts is a lot better because you can have it with you no matter where you are! I was going to put my mindmap about my fantasy world, but I decided that I didn't want all of that public on the web, I just want to show HWers how it can be used for world-building. So I might do it once I have a world sub-forum...

There are also any number of mind-mapping tools for the major desktop platforms. (For example, in my Linux distribution's package database are Freemind, Semantik, and vym, all of which are free ...) I keep meaning to try them for my worldbuilding (and other) projects.

You should! It might help you a lot. Yeah, the reason I prefer iThoughts is because a lot of people say it's the best mind-mapping tool, and it seems better than any other mobile app for mind-mapping (the reason I prefer mobile, is because that way I can use it at home and elsewhere).
