These small birds are similar to the Saturdays other than they are larger, black and don't flock. Their feathers are also dull and hold no luster. They replace crows in the story world.

What these creatures will do is torment travelers by attacking those who stray into their territory. They make no sounds, no voices, only the flapping of owl-soft wings which makes them excellent at surprising their targets. They only appear at night. Sometimes when food is short, they band up and attack villages in search of grain.

The Whisperwings are very territorial and are considered pests. Their meat is stringy and rots fast so if someone manages to kill one, they leave the carcasses to whatever scavenger is desperate enough to eat it.

They will also eat dead meat and also act as vultures to add protein to their died of seeds. However, they will not kill their food intentionally. They don't know what meat they are eating, it all tastes the same to them. The only meat they can't stand to eat is their own, as it is foul tasting. In this way they are not cannibals. The Whisperwings are both good and bad for their own reasons. They are given a bad reputation.

Whisperwings live where there is a good food source so most live on the Gryphon Plains. Small populations live across the remainder of the continent. These are simple creatures, not evil or good.

The only time they come together is mating season, during late winter to mid-spring. The parents both take care of the twin offspring which are always both female or male.

They will share their home with most creatures but any winged creature they will drive off. They are jealous for their sky.

So how do the Whisperwings chase off people? Do they just fly in their faces?

I like them, Birdie! :D

They peck and scratch them. They're not called Night's Curse for nothing.

Another interesting small bird! Are their beaks strong, hooked beaks; or are they small?

They eat a diet of grains and sometimes meat so their beak is like of a parrot. I've been bitten by one. IT HURTS.

Wow, those sound cool! Good job! Wouldn't want to meet one, though. One question, are they as intelligent as the saturdays, or are they 'just birds'? Either way, they are cool!

Let me clarify, they are not evil. Possessing not an inkling of intelligence, these birds are not capable of seeing beyond instinct. You don't want to mess around with them the same you wouldn't want to jump into piranha-infested waters.

I like that. I like that a lot. As fantasy authors, we tend to have a cut and dry "these are evil, these are not". There is a reason for this, but I like when an author breaks that mould.

Ah, I see. I think the name still sounds pretty though. ^_^
