I have not given much thought to the law enforcement in my world, because it is a very peaceful world. What I was thinking is, that if someone is caught breaking one of the Zeldian laws or cultures, the Zentai of your tribe (the leader), would use you as a servant for a given amount of time, depending on how big your action was.

Would that be the only form of judicial punishment?

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Like I said, it is a VERY peaceful world. :) There is not much necessity for law enforcement. :)

I just felt that, instead of focusing on wars and fighhting and whatnot, I decided that I would prefer a peaceful world, like how I wished that our world was :)

I think different stories need to teach different truths, so that works, if it supports your theme. :D

Having an extremely peaceful world would be something different. You might be able to use that as a hook to sell your fantasy world (and the novels written in it). :D

Indentured servitude seems like a reasonable punishment. If there were ever a disagreement or a case in which the guilty party wasn't immediately known, who would decide who was guilty?

Well, if it was a small crime, like vandalism or some such thing, they would probably forget about it. Unless it happens again. If it was bigger, they would hold an investigation, like they do here.

So do petty crimes go largely unpunished, then?

IF they don't know who did it. If they do, then servitude as well.

Interesting. Is there a general belief or mindset the people hold that would make them willing to tolerate petty crimes?

Have you considered what they would do with someone who committed a violent crime and posed a genuine threat to other people if let relatively unfettered (or just alive)? I understand the world you are going for wouldn't have this problem - at least not often - but you might want to think about it just as a sort of threat or never-happen in the back of everyone's mind.

An interesting thing about this system is how it all depends on the Zentai at hand. No higher court, etc. I'm now curious as to how the Zentai are chosen *runs to see if you have a government thread for your world*

How Zentais are chosen is explained in the Chronicles. I put it as part of the history. And also, I guess you would be kept in a cell cave (a jail inside a cave that the Zentais have just in case).

Do they ever practice capital punishment? In one of my worlds, the government cannot sanction the death of anyone, so the death penalty is not an option.

Didn't figure. It didn't sound like something your world would condone. :D

How does your world react to murderers, should one arise?

They would probably freak out. Since those things basically never happen, it would be like the end of the world for them. And if they find out who it is, they would keep you in a cell cave for your whole life, so that they aren't "killing" you, but you die in punishment.

Makes good sense.

*has the evil-author urge to write a story in this world where a murder happens*
