What follows is an outline of the government structure of each of the races that dwells in the world of Eeria. In sum, there are three "races" or types of humans (Aramin, N'Aramin, and F'Aramin), as well as a specific human entity named Rangers and a specific human entity named the Eeria & Eerianess. In addition, the sentient elemental spirits--Istarel, the stronger, and M'Istarel, the dimmer--have a separate government. Note: about a three centuries previous to the date of the story, a great war named the Istarel War occurred, which drastically changed the size and government of each of the races in Eeria. I. The three human races A. Aramin a. historically ruled by appointed council of five b. scattered in the Istarel War; thus usually found in pockets ruled by local leaders c. submissive to the Eerianess and friendly to Rangers B. N’Aramin a. ruled by single hereditary position b. strong and prosperous throughout the Istarel War, but took to cities and banded together with strong fortresses and military training programs to avert future disasters c. the people as a whole distrust the Rangers and the Eerianess, though the king is cordial to them and accepts an ambassador C. F’Aramin a. no form of representative or hereditary government b. all but extinct in the Istarel War; scattered throughout small communities of Aramin or living in isolation; thus, submissive to local rulers or else altogether independent c. wary of contact with Rangers or Eerianess, unless in their employ or living in a community where Rangers & Eerianess are accepted II. The Rangers A. Head Ranger a. after the Istarel War, the Ranger guild was hastily formed by the Eerianess to control the new rogue Istarel b. the Ranger guild also defends against wild beasts, predators, and forces of evil (e.g. mortals turned against other mortals) in the Wastes B. Outpost/district head Rangers (one over each region) C. common-class Rangers (five in each region) III. The Eeria A. The Globe a. a clear stone, large (horse-size), irregular but ovular, found in the center of the Waste at the beginning of Time. b. the Istarel and M’Istarel arose from the Globe, each with a small chip of the Globe lodged in its throat and glowing clear. c. The Eerianess was originally appointed as spokesperson between humans and the Istarel; the Globe is known to foster this communication. d. Thus, the Eerianess kept the Globe, bringing it to the Eeria. Later, she gave each Eeriann a piece of the Globe for communication. e. The globe can be used by anyone in possession of a chip of the stone B. The Eerianess a. historically, before the Istarel war, the Eerianess directed the movements of the Istarel, ensuring their welfare and the continued blessing of the land b. after the Istarel war, the Eerianess needed another way to protect the land from natural disaster; the Globe blessed her & her helpers with the primary power of damage control to take over the responsibilities the Istarel originally held C. community (town, city, village) Eerianns a. serve primarily healers b. secondary function to avert small natural disasters; alleviate the burden of drought; offer relief to agriculture D. Eerianess staff (circle of seven) IV. Istarel & M’Istarel A. Istarel a. originally created as guardians of important land features (rock formations, mountain ranges, lakes, mines, mineral deposits) and against storms and other natural disasters (fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.) b. after the Istarel war, all fire, earth, and water Istarel forced into submission to unknown forces. Air remains free to guard its original domains c. now mostly massed in the North, away from any inhabited lands, both in underwater and underground (caverns) and volcano fortresses, as well as the Wastes. d. some sent on missions South, to the Inhabited Lands. Usually feared as agents of evil and death (can distort weather patterns and kill in combat) B. M’Istarel a. originally created as guardians similar to the Istarel, but weaker and more numerous; tasked with smaller assignments b. after the Istarel war, mostly died defending Istarel and their guardian realms. Survivors hide. c. not considered important enough or enough of a threat by Rangers or Eerianess; thus, ignored and left alone if found |

Rangers! Sorry, Rangers are the only things that bring me back to writing fantasy. |

Yes, Rangers are pretty sweet...if a trifle overused |

Nice work, Dawn! I do have some questions: 1. Does each Aramin and N'Aramin have its own rulers? Or is there one council and one king that rule over all of them? 2. Are the Rangers Eeriann, or a separate group entirely? 3. So, the Eerianess is one person, who directs her Eeriann helpers? Does each Eeriann's piece of globe allow them to communicate with just her, or with anyone they want to? (Sorry... I was a little confused about the Eerianns.) 4. Do the Eerianns actually have 'powers', or are they just leaders to direct the people in case of disaster? 5. What is the purpose of the Eerianess staff? 6. And... what caused the Istarel War? Your races sound really neat, and I can tell you put a lot of thought into them. Keep up the good work! |
