Allarian dragons make their home mainly in the southern country of Allare, Piensor. Instead of just fire-breathing dragons, there are several other types, like water, poison, and electricity.

If a dragon breathes only water, what would be the organ that 'contains' the fire contains water, the heating sac can heat the water if the dragon chooses. Same for electricity or poison, each having their own effect.

The spikes on a dragon's spine (usually running from just under the head to varying lengths of the tail) are retractable. The dragon can retract any number of its spikes at any time, but they retract slowly, and most young dragons have difficulty learning the ability.

Many of the Allarian dragons have fur, usually under their chin or at the end of their tail. The fur constantly grows, so a dragon has to keep it cut.

Dragons are also part of a group called Dragon Keepers. They, along with a human partner(s), keep the secrets of dragons. If a Dragon and Human develop a special relationship, they could become Dragon Keepers. This is to insure that Dragon lore, history, and other important information is kept alive if Dragons die out.

They're usually able to use their claws to cut the fur.

Awesome! I love the fact that these dragons have fur, I never really thought about that. Do some dragons never learn how to retract their spines? What about their teeth, can they retract those too?

They're retractable?! That's awesome. :D I never thought of that.

Aeleknight- Thanks. :) It's rare for a dragon to not be able to learn how to retract them, it just takes effort for some to master it, since they're basically pulling the spike into their body. No, the teeth aren't retractable. That would be a Night Fury. :)

Airianna- Haha, thanks. :) I realized that with back spikes, any riders would have a really hard time avoiding them, so I figured they'd retract so I wouldn't have to take away dragon coolness.

How would your dragon breathe electricity? Do sparks fly out of its mouth? Is it, persay, like the two-headed dragon on How To Train Your Dragon--like a electrical starter? Do lightning bolts fly out of its mouth? When it opens its mouth to roar, does that roar trigger something that makes its whole body become electrical, that if you touch the dragon during this stage, you get shocked? Can this dragon absorb electricity and be out in an electrical storm and not be injured?

For the poison-breathing dragon, is the poison in the form of a gas? Is it a liquid form? Is it invisible or colored? Is it like smoke or like wind, if in a gas form, when the dragon breathes it? Or if in liquid form, does it squirt like a water gun or does it spray like when a person would put their thumb on a hose to make it shoot farther? Can it eat poisonous things? (Eg: Poisonous animals)

When the dragon breathes water, does it shoot out with such force that it can kill a creature instantly? Can it control it? Can it make the water into a mist when it breathes it? Can the dragon absorb water? If so, can it use this water?

Can these dragons protect their riders if caught in any of these elements?

I'd be curious to find out about these dragons...
God Bless,
-Donn Q.

Aeleknight- No, I don't. :)

Donn-

Electricity:
-It's basically a lightning bolt. It's heat sac provides the 'spark', and it's 'fire' sac provides the rest so all the dragon needs to do is exhale the electricity. You only get shocked if you touch anywhere near it's mouth.
-Yes. It can absorb electricity. It can keep from getting hurt to certain degrees. If it's a very powerful electrical storm, the dragon should be cautious.

Poison:
-The poison is an a purplish-green colored liquid form. It can spray and squirt, depending on the force the dragon exhales with.
-It can't eat poisonous things, but it does have a high tolerance to coming in contact to poison (gas or liquid).

Water:
-A dragon can control the force it uses to spray water. No, it can't turn it into a mist, depending on how it uses the heat sac, it can either have freezing properties or boiling hot temperatures.
-It can't abosrb water, but it can remain submerged for very long periods of time.

Riders:
Yes, in a sense. When a dragon becomes 'bonded' (so to speak) with a human, the rider receives some of the dragon's abilities mentioned above. For instance, a human can remain underwater for longer periods of time than the normal human. Or for fire, the human can withstand imense amounts of heat for a longer period of time (even in direct contact with fire, but the time span for direct contact is shorter). But the rider's dragon can withstand these elements longer than the rider.

Can I just say that the term Dragon Keepers has been used in other books? For the sake of originallity, perhaps it would be best to change it. I can help if you're willing.

The term has been used in the Dragon Keeper series by Dontia K. Paul. Her first series is okay. It took me a month to read the third book because it dragged on so much. D: (which was about 250 pgs) Her other books are good enough though.

Is anyone here a Bryan Davis fan? *fan girl squeal*

I see. I doubt my Dragons and their Keepers will get published, but if they do, I will keep in mind changing the name. :) Thank you for your concern, though.

I refer to both Dragon Riders and Dragon Keepers. They are universal terms used by people long before Donita K. or the Eragon series.

However, choosing another name does do something for some readers.

Hmm...I would think that the dragon could turn the water into mist, by dint of heating it until it evaporates....

Sorry I never got back to this. :P

Yes. Some readers like books that are more... Original? *shrugs * They like complex names as opposed to names that simply state that someone is a Dragon Rider. So... example.

For many reasons, I chose to change the names of my Shadow Riders (I won't go into the long list of whys). I changed their name to Shadar. This was a wise move on my part, and most of my Betas were very happy with the change and liked Shadar much better, even though Shadow Riders worked fine.

However, I have Diegosian Riders and Diegosian keepers. I chose to keep these titles because they immediately let my readers know the role of the characters. I can focus less on describing that "These men ride around on the backs of Diegose" because that is already implied in the title.

See?

I think so...

I wouldn't be accused of plagiarizing if I used the name Dragon Keepers, would I? I love the title, and I'm sure I could find something similar if I had to. But it's frustrating when I come up with the name for sometihng I find out it's already been used. :P (Of course, Dragon Keepers isn't exactly copyrighted, as far as I know, but that's more for other names)

In the U.S., at least, it's not possible to copyright a title. (This has come up several times in the last few years on a mailing list I lurk on.) But if you go the traditional-publishing route I would not be at all surprised if your publisher made you change it, just to avoid any confusion between your story and the others using the same term.

These sound like very cool dragons, Aris! :D

I really like the Dragon Keepers idea with the riders and their dragons, although something a little less original might be better. While it is a good name for these circumstances, I would just suggest something a little more unique might stick better in a reader's mind.

Oh, and I like they way you've thought through the whole thing with the heat sac and everything. It really adds some nice depth and history. :D

No, there is no copyright on the name Dragon Keeper. You just have to weigh the fact that it has been used before. It is totally the call of the author.
