This subforum says Geography and Flora, but there seems to be much of the former and little of the latter. So I'm making a post about flowers. :D

Technically, they're both healing herbs, beautiful and mysterious, but very, very rare. They also have names which have nothing to do with flora. And I also know little about plants, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions concerning these, it would be appreciated.

Earthen Snowsong
Name came right off the top of my head, and I thought it beat Snow Flower. Anyway, Snowsong takes the form of a lotus shaped flower. It grows on a silver vine, much like a morning glory. The petals are silver on the outside, but inside they're blue-tinted white with a blue center. It is mainly used for healing of the mind, bringing rest and temporal peace.

Passionflame
You can see that I need a creativity check. Anyway, this plant is a close relative to Earthen Snowsong, but sports many differences. The bloom has curving petals like a lily, and it's color is a deep scarlet, like blood. A vein runs down the middle of each petal, travelling to the center of the plant. The vein is golden, and pulses like a heartbeat. These are used for serious wounds inflicted by weapons. The flower can restore blood, and has been used to successfully heal fatal wounds.

Both of these are gifts from the Creator, and their healing properties are natural, not magical. I'm still smoothing out the abilities of Snowsong. And I'm also working on another plant, Dragonstar (working name). Thoughts?

Wow - I wouldn't mind having a bouquet of those. :P They sound pretty neat, and I really like the name Earthen Snowsong. =)

I like both concepts, though the name "passionflame" doesn't make me think of a plant used for healing. They sound striking and unique enough that I'd love to see them in real life. Do you have a certain climate in which they grow? Can they only be used fresh or do they retain their potency when dried?

I find nothing wrong with your names. Look at our worlds flowers, Dandelion, for example. If it were left up to me I'd stay with the names you got. :)

Thank you for the encouraging posts, I really appreciated the feedback. :D

I made passionflame on a whim, but that one might be changed. The name will still have "passion" in it, though. For now, it stays.

The potency of these flowers is strongest when they're alive, but it is still existant if the flower has been skillfully dried like a normal herb. If they die in cold and wet, and end up rotting, that's a whole different story. ;)

Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement, Elanhil. Especially in my inaccurate world of plants. :D

What kind of different story? *raises eyebrows*

A relatively tragic, unhealthy one. ;)

They just wilt, guys. Die. Ka-put. End. Fin. No more. A rotted, dead flower.

Right?

That makes sense. :)

Or do they become toxic and poison any exposed to them? That could be an interesting twist, especially if you have a character not familiar with herb lore. :)

So I had a nice, satisfactory reply written up, then I accidently closed my browser last night. :P

That would make a fantastic twist. Maybe I'll use dead snowsong as the herb I mentioned for my Ice Shards in the Weapons thread.

Thank you! :D

I'd love to hear more about your plants. Maybe we could make the Geography and Flora subforum more Flora than Geography. ;)

That is a problem. It should be called: "MAPS! With a little bit about plants."
