So, I know I've hardly posted anything about my world here, with the exception of
The Legend of Time, but quite a bit of it is developed, and I was informed by Eruheran that I need to post about it in order to get a world subforum

And so, here's the first post. It is about Rinadrion, which is just to the north of Arvindia (the country I'm currently writing about).
Rinadrion is a land of war. It was colonized about a hundred years after Arvindia, but it has currently conquered several countries in the north-western part of Heszeret, as well as the Three Countries (Relastin, Tareth, and Anarth). It's relationship to these countries is basically the set up between England and America before the Revolution: they mostly leave the inhabitants alone, but they expect tribute, and a lot of their basic laws are in place to keep the countries quiet.
A bit about their culture:
Every year, all the fourteen year old boys go to the royal city of Cavaris; some of them are then selected by the top general to serve in the special part of the army which is directly under the command of the king's eldest son. They will serve in this capacity for at least five years, but may continue until they are too old to serve in the army.
A large amount of the men in Rinadrion eventually make their way into the army, since war is so ingrained into their culture. Boys are taught by their fathers to fight as soon as they can hold a fairly heavy stick, and girls often have to take up the slack of farm work when their brothers/fathers/husbands are gone.
The Rinadrions are pagan for the most part. They have three main gods, and a lot of lesser gods. Their main gods, not surprisingly, have to do with war:
Rinard (from which the country’s name comes) is the god of war, Kelvessus is god of the wounded, and Hirdoff is god of the fallen soldier. They also worship the goddess of healing, Thelaya.
Also not surprisingly, their main holidays have to do with war.
Quote:
Rinard, the greatest of the gods of war, is honored every four months by a huge military procession through the streets of Cavaris, the royal city. As each column of soldiers passes under the great statue of Rinard, they lift their weapons in salute.
When a boy reaches twelve years of age, he is given a sword by his father. On a girl’s twelfth birthday she is given a young workhorse colt, or a calf. Birthdays are usually not celebrated, only marked on the calendar.
Great Rinadrion victories against the enemy are celebrated with feasts and dancing.
The king's sons generally serve in the army from the ages of 15 to 20, and the eldest son is expected to lead his own special unit of soldiers in case of a war.
Quote:
The Rinadrion architecture is very grim and strong, with no ornamentation and many towers and high, thick walls.
Well, that's all for now! If anyone can think of any questions, please ask them. I'm always eager to develop my world more.
The next post will be about Belvia.
Edit:
Forgot a few things!
Quote:
Rinadrion is well known for its war-singing; it is a proven fact that it keeps the soldiers’ morale up. War-singing begins low and deep, and goes on, rising until it reaches a thrilling and uplifting conclusion. It is usually sung to keep time with the marching. There are no instrumental accompaniments. There are also harps and lutes used in Rinadrion, but not by the army.
The two races in Rinadrion are men and dwarves, but dwarves stay in the mountains and make things to sell to the king and the army. They are basically citizens, but not expected to fight unless the country is invaded.
Also, this post may seem a bit on the choppy side because it comes from an encyclopedia sort of thing I've written for each country as I develop it. That's why I say, if you have a question, ask away!
