I put the "" around light because I haven't exactly named their power yet...bad I know....especially since I'm into chapter fifteen in the book I am writing with them. Oh well, suppose it's just one of those laws of writing that I never follow. Anyways, here is my little thread about them. I know a decent amount...it's basically just a few naming holes that I need to patch up (can't decide if their language is Hebrew or Latin or a variation of the two). Okay, here we go.

Appearance: Lumanians look pretty much like humans. Their height varies but when fully grown they are never below 5'10" or above 6'3". This can make them seem intimidating to the shorter races (such as Lupis and Black Dwarves) though they don't need to be feared. Most of them have either very jet black or very light blond hair, never in between unless they are of the less common kind of Lumenian. (explained in "abilities") They are often thin and without much visible muscle mass, but are nevertheless very agile and one of the best fighting races. As for skin tone; it varies. Most common tone is a pale white, though, the Lumenians with jet black hair often have a darker olive colored skin tone.

Abilities: Lumenian comes from the Latin word lumen meaning "Light", when paired with the English suffix ian the invented definition changes to "Light-wielder" or "Of Light". They are given this name due to the ability that all are born with. A power to create glowing orbs (each different color shade) of a substance...not entirely known to man. It can disintegrate your enemies, call to your friends, serve as simply another way to throw a punch, and even be used as a shield when you are under attack. That is the basic of these abilities, at least. When fully developed most Lumenians find they have also been given the power of Levitation.
Less Common Lumenians: A chosen few of them are born with a special gift Elah Shaddaih has granted them...the gift of telepathy. They can place a whisper into the thoughts of another's mind and some find it possible to force said person to do things. Assuming the person being forced is not Lumenian himself, for he will have a certain amount of control over his mind that makes it increasingly harder to break it. Though, it is possible.

History (In Short): When Elah Shaddaih molded our planet and all living being in it they where his chosen ones. The race chosen to know of him even after the fall of Pavix, well into the days of humans blindness, and after all prophecies had been fulfilled. Though when one of their own fell (Pavix, as I have mentioned before) they where no longer permitted to see Elah Shaddaih every day, instead he roamed around. Watching in despair as Pavix's lies filled the humans minds. Some of them fell in love with a few humans they met one day...and so the race was merged with those of normal abilities and forgotten, upon the formation of the three villages; Realta, Wesmorin, and Yernen. This is what brings us to present. A young Lumenian girl whom did not know of her power and now must discover it before others are hurt by her father's own discovery.

Wow...that was uncharacteristically long of me...Don't usually know/write that much about my races. Anyways, hope you enjoyed and that I didn't just hopelessly bore you! :D

Akari might be a good power name; it's Japanese for light.

I was thinking about the powers name simply being Lumen, considering that is where their race name came from....but I'll think on that one. It sounds really pretty. :D

Lumen might not be a good Idea, it was the name for the little glowing orbs in Rayman... But whatever.

Wow, sound great! So these guys are all good except for that Pavix guy? How long do they live?

Well, Pavix is bad and some Lumenians decided to follow him, but they aren't called Lumenians anymore. They are now Anikulum and nobody knows they are the (lack of a better term) fallen Lumenians.

Good Lumenians live anywhere from 100-150 years though they never look older than thirty. Anikulum live 80 years, exactly.

Thanks! :D

Not only is this thread interesting but it has explained some things I didn't quite understand in your story. It's also helping me formulate some ideas of my own for a race similar to the Lumenians in certain respects. :D

Neat! I'd love to hear about the race you created if you ever post about then. :D

Do they have beards? Are they ever bald? Do they have hooked noses, almond eyes, pronounced lips, or pointed ears?

Here are some name suggestions, if you want them:

For the Lumenians:
(all of the names mean "Light People"),

Halanama, plural Halan,
Sartanist, plural Sartanisti,
Eluosso, plural Eluossona.

For the orbs:

Gholda, plural Gholhon,
Scistat, plural Scisti,
Uhilo, plural Uhilona.

Would one of these work?

They can grow beards if they want to, but usually only the older Lumenians do since it signifies that they are older. They can cut their hair...but they don't go bald. They have about the same majority of different facial features as humans have, the only certain facial feature would be almond eyes. All female Lumenians have almond eyes (the boys can have them too, but it isn't common).

Admittedly, I'm stuck on Lumenian so I don't think I could change that.

But I'm currently just calling the orbs "luze" (which is just Spanish for light with an added "e" at the end :P ) Did the names you offer have definitions or did they also mean "light people"?

Halanama, Sartanist, and Eluosso all mean "Light Man," and their plurals mean "Light Men," or "Light People."

I thought they would have almond eyes!

What do you mean when you say they can grow beards if they want to? There are many people, particularly Asians and native Americans, who rarely can grow beards. Are they like them?

Ah, cool! :D

I meant that they can grow a beard, or they can shave and not grow a beard. Kind of like how a girl and have long hair or she can cut it and have short hair.

So they have a custom of shaving their beards?

Do their women shave their heads and wear wigs as did the ancient Egyptians?

Something like that...the older Lumenians have beards because it's a sign of their age and wisdom (it's sort of like a sign of honor). The younger ones don't because they are..well...younger.

Haha, that would be an interesting tradition, but, no, they don't do that. ;)

Here we discuss an imaginary race which can shoot shining orbs of alien substance out of their bodies, and when I mention an ancient Egyptian custom they say it is weird!

However, I like the Race-with-orbs-of-alien-substance-shooting-out-of-their-bodies far better than the ancient Egyptian custom.

Is this based in earth?

Do you have a discussion of the Lupis somewhere? They sound interesting.

Nope, it's based in my world; Chevl'Set. Which I have a sub-forum for that I hyperlinked into my siggy...you can click on that since I'm too lazy to get the link.
