S.C.I. Seely Court Investigations “Improv” Written by Solomon O. Soldier
Before reading this story, there are a few things you should know…. Mythical creatures of any race co-exist in modern day and some others even kill. Then there are creatures like me that must stop those that kill or harm humans or other mythicals. We operate as a team around the world and are the best of the best from seven continents. We are: S.C.I. Seely Court Investigations FLORIDA: MODERN DAY A BOARDWALK… My wings hurt. They have been flying for hours. Why? Because of my crazy partner: Kat. “Do something! He’s getting away!” Kat yells! She’s a Kataw, Philippian mermaid. Instead of a fish tail, she has fins under her arms and gills on the side of her cheek -2- “Can you do anything but yell?” My wings had really had it and I shifted into my sand skinned merman form. “Excuse me, but the blood lord Chen Yakno aka Japan’s most wanted…” Kat paused. “…second,” I corrected her. “Excuse me?” Kat asked. “Second most wanted!” One thing she didn’t like: someone correcting her because she had to be right all the time. “Did you just….” I interrupted her. “…correct you? Yes, I did.” The drops of rain hit my gills. “Where was…oh, yes…the SECOND…” she yelled to get her point across. “…most wanted blood sucking Nukibi vampire is getting away!” I interrupted her again. “Vampire,” I replied. “That’s what I said!” her voice yelled! “You said blood sucking Nukibi,” I paused. “I did. Your point?” She was mad. “You could have just said ‘vampire’! Simplify it.” I explained as I hummed ‘Singing in the Rain’. “First, did you just…wait, you are not….” She paused. “Not what?” the rain hit my gills and made me hum even more. “Humming ‘Singing in the Rain’ you are!” she raised her voice. “I am.” I smiled. -3- “He’s getting away! Do something you….” She paused. “Bird.” I replied. “What?” she asked confused. “Agent Bird is my name,” I stated. “I know?” she questioned. “Just making sure you get it right ‘cause most of the time you don’t.” I sighed as she never did, come to think of it. “I don’t? Oh no, that’s bad.” She sighed. “What is…oh no, that’s …!” A yacht pulled up with a human man as the driver and a woman merfolk with gills on her forehead. “She’s using her siren song to control him to drive the boat, so…” I interrupted her. “So the vampire will get away?” “We have to get him before he gets away!” We said at the same time. The rain was mild. It felt good on my gills, but then I saw that look in her eye: ‘Improv’ look. “No! No! No! No! No!” “Oh yes!” she smiled as the vampire dressed in a suit and tie was almost to the boat. “I can’t watch this.” I turned into my bird form and flew away as fast as I could! The rain turned quickly to sharp icicles. “Oh no! I didn’t think this thru!” Kat just realized it as her eyes opened, the icicles fell knocking the vampire off the dock and into the water with Kat, driver of the boat and the siren controlling mermaid. “Hey, what happened? The water is ice!” Someone yelled from the beach as I watched a surfer ride a wave. -4- “Watch this, you’ll never forget it!” He was right. The wave froze and turned to ice in seconds and so had the whole part of the ocean! At lease this little bit. “So, did you guys get him?” Holly was the annoying computer opps girl who was speaking thru my earpiece. “Oh, you could say that!” I paused hearing Holly’s fox tail wag. Sometimes she even pants like a puppy. “So, you got him?” she asked excited and panting. “Oh yeah, we got him alright, along with every other swimmer of surfer!” I sighed. I forgot to mention Kat used her Kataw powers and turned the water or rain to icicles, and on top of that knocked herself into the water, losing control of her powers and turning the ocean into a giant ice rink!
