Hello everyone, there's a cloak of courage that needs an almost superpower or magic power of some sort.
One cloak in the world can do amazing things and the person who made it is a spy for a branched government.
Joey, a teenager, discovers his dad made him a cloak when he received it at a young age when he was a kid.
But his brothers sold it to a research warehouse in Africa.
But now, in present day, Joey finds the cloak and takes it back to fight crime, but time is running out.

May the best power win!

Invisibility comes to mind...since it was made by a spy that would be helpful...

Harry Potter? :P

It could make you....really good at things, like archery, sword fighting, etc.

It could transport you places? I don't know if that one's been done before...

It could...make you...um...impossible to hurt? Like a sort of force field, I guess.

It could....yeah, that's all I got.

Invisibility is an obvious choice, but apparently that's been done before? :P Having it be able to protect the wearer, like supernaturally bullet proof, is also good for a spy.

However, you might have fun if you give the cloak an unusual power... something the spy doesn't know what to do with, at first. Like... *thinks of something random* When he wears the cloak, he looks like he's 5 years old again (or however young he was when he first got the cloak).

The ancient Norse goddess Freyja supposedly had a cloak made of falcon feathers that let her transform into one. So a cloak that allowed him to shapeshift would be cool, and most people aren't familiar enough with Norse Mythology to make the connection, especially if it turned him into thing(s) other than a falcon.

Another thought is that it could allow him to alter his size. Like wrap it around himself and when he unwraps his size changes and he does the same thing to regain his normal size.

Flight is another more obvious capability.

It could also allow him to alter his substance in a similar manner as the size-changing thought. For instance he could turn into fire, lightning, water, stone, etc.

Or it could make him stronger, faster, you know.

Those are the only ideas I can think of at the moment.

I have a couple of ideas.
The cloak could be reversible. One side could permit its wearer the ability to re-arrange their molecular structure to fit through strange places (through closed doors, under doors, between bars) in other words their body becomes very malleable, however you want to work with that. On the flip side, the reverse cloak could make the wearer extremely physically dense by arranging his structure. It would make him harder to hurt in fights, survive long falls, etc. Just a thought...

I have an idea that is a play off of the very common invisibility power: make him unnoticeable.

Most people go invisible (in stories that is) by making it impossible for someone to see you with their eyes. What if you made him go invisible by making it impossible for people to see you with their mind? As in, they could run right into you and go around you, looking desperately for you, and never notice that they just ran into you.

Sir Emeth,

This sounds like an interesting idea. I for one would be fascinated if you would elaborate. For example, what would the victims of this power remember about the situation? How would they process it if, say, a friend was waving to them on the other side of the unnoticeable person, but they couldn't see him because of said person, but at the same time they didn't notice the presence of said person, and if he hadn't been there, they certainly would have seen their friend?

That is a good question. Let me put it this way: the person would become like a completely boring block of stone. Nothing notable about it. So you wouldn't see the friend waving and you wouldn't notice the obstruction, though you would see it. That is the difference between this and normal invisibility.

What would they see? A man in a cloak, but think nothing of it? Or would he 'blend' with his surroundings?

The former: they would see a man in a cloak, but thinking nothing of it. :)

That reminds me of a concept in Stephen King's The Eyes of the Dragon. The magician (Flagg) was able to make himself Dim... which meant that regular people didn't notice him, but were puzzled by a strange obstruction and then moved on as if they hadn't seen him at all. People who knew him, however, could see him just fine. Thought it was an interesting concept.

Hm... the cloak may be able to give him a power to read people's minds?

I kinda like the teleportation idea. The inside of it could be like a portal which he could use to teleport himself, as well as objects. Like, he could put up the cloak and teleport bullets somewhere else.

Others though.

A pocket space? Similar to the Teleportation idea only it doesn't take him anywhere, he just goes into the cloak and there is like this inconspicuous piece of cloth on the ground, and only he can choose what goes in and out.

It gives him the ability to levitate pass through objects and make objects pass through him like a ghost or phantasm.

Hypnotic powers maybe?

I had these ideas, and I will elaborate further if I can:

As soon as you look away, you forget about them. Either that, or the person simply doesn't register ion your mind. You can bump into them, and just think that you need to get more sleep.
The Mist of Mimetes wrote:

I thought of this too. Whether human shapes, i.e. taking a person's essence somehow and transforming the wearer into that person (very good for a spy) or just changing specific features, or even turning him into an animal. This effect should have a time limit, though, so it doesn't seem too easy.

How about - the cloak reveals things behind whatever wall it is laid over?
So its wearer can see inside vaults and caves and through buildings.
Invisibility and shapeshifting has been done so many ways.

Spies also reveal secrets. They make treasures known.
