The Elves Of Umbrafrost


[Anatomy]

The elves of Umbrafrost are a grim and fierce people, the light hearted spirit of their mainland kin beaten out by the harsh lessons they have learned on the ice. Ice elves as they are called range from milky white, soft violet and raven black in skin color and their hair is often long and pearly white but black, silver and grey are common as well and they carry themselves with a champion's stride for where others would have frozen and died they have thrived.


Male Ice elves are taller than most elves usually standing around six foot two and weigh between a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty five pounds while the females stand between five foot four and six feet and weighing around a hundred and five pounds and each is graced with a light limbed athletic body with more agility and balance than any other race in Graith.


The skin of Ice elves are made like to not only resist the harsh cold of their country but absorbs as much sunlight as possible. Ice elves live in a land where it is nigt three out of four weeks a month and as such Ice elves have eyes that see very well in the dark and their hearing is above the average elf's.


[Religion]

The Ice elves like all elves revere God as the creator and cherish the snow and sea as their mainland cousins cherish the forests and earth.


The art of the sword is a sacred practice for the elves, it tempers them into stronger beings, it makes their mind and reactions sharper and quicker and prepares them to give their lives for something bigger than themselves, be it for God and his church, country or family.


[Society]

Ice elf society revolves around trade with the mainland as the their icy homeland gives little crops and the ones they do pale in comparison to those the mainlander's enjoy and the richest members of Ice elf society are the Trade Princes do buisness with the shores of Graith and ship captains who brave the pirates and sea beasts to bring them to the people.


The upper class is haughty and snide but it is the mask they wear, most of the Ice elf noble houses have a deep and fierce love for their people and their brthers and sisters over seas, though a bitter past with the Gorebacks has put some strain between the two races.


The next richest set is the military class, Warrior families that have been guarding the frozen boarders of ?Umbrafrost, their job never ends and they are always hiring, it is the best way for many in the peasant class to rise up and make better lives for themselves.


The final class or "Peasants" as they call themselves with grim humor are the ship hands, the shop keepers, the fish cleaners, craftsmen and other grunt work that needs to be done. Its not a glamourous life but no one starves or sleeps on the street unless they are lazy.


[Combat]

Unlike most elves, Ice elves do not instantly shy away from a straight up fight and will send their strongest fighters in for a frontal assault while their comrades circle around or set up for potshots, a common military tactic since Ice elves can scale the frozen cliffs and blend into the snowy dunes of their homeland with ease while the raiders and other alien threats to their land need to fight tooth and nail just to wade through the snow.


Archery and swordsmenship are the most respected schools of combat in Umbrafrost and both schools ahve hundreds of Orders dedicated to them with the Knights Of The Frozn Cross and the White Feather Order being the best examples of each.


Axes and picks are both common weapons as they functions as tools in the field as well as heavy handed weapons. The Polar Knights are a fine example of the Ice Elfs martial skill with weapons most mainland elves turn their noses up at.


Tinkers are a growing community in Ice elf cities, the lifeless robots they create are becoming an invaluable source to the prick eared race as the machines can scout farther and longer than their owners and do not need food, the can also be used as soldiers, whenever one is destroyed their remains can be scavanged to make a new one.

I really like their appearance. It is unique and cool.
