I agree with pretty much everything I've read here. I think that naming your world is unnecessary, but if you're like me, you're going to go nuts if you don't think of something to call it other than "my world" because that sounds lame.

What I did was similar to Lewis, I just named it after the nation I'm going to be focusing on: Vosmerre (makes me think of a beautiful, cold, harsh environment [like Alaska {one of my favorite places here on earth}]). Oh, and by the way, Tolkien had a name for his world, or at least his elves did. They call it Arda, which rings beauty, unimaginable beauty, and is why I just HAD to think of a neat name for my own world, or at least nation...

I loved the name Arda too. I like Vosmerre, it sounds very interesting, very good for a cold, harsh place; I even like your user name - what syllable is accented?

Thank you! Um, I don't know which syllable is accented, but I say like this: Voz-meer, not Voss-meer, does that answer your question?

It answered a question I had not thought to ask: I pronounced it in my head vos-mer (as in mare), and was wondering if you pronounced it vos-mer... So you pronounce it voz-mir (as in mere)?

Yes, in Vosmerre, Vos (Voz) connotes beauty and Merre (meer) connotes an abundance of water (there are a lot of rivers and lakes, and it rains quite a bit, making Vosmerre a very lush place, sort of like Washington where I live), uh, so as I was saying, merre connotes an abundance of water while mere connotes water loggedness, some parts of my land are like that, but not much of it.

At least that is what I think it means right now, but nothing is quite set in stone until I get some part of Vosmerre published :book:.

I grew up in Washington (and now I live in Ireland), and I agree with the name "beautiful waters."

Cool! Ireland sounds like a neat place too, the countryside is amazing from the pictures I've seen.
Yesterday I was working on a map for my world I hadn't worked on for awhile, and I saw that it's called Vadra, I forgot that I had a name for my world instead of just the 'main' nation in it. So my world is actually called Vadra, which I think combines some of the feeling of Vosmerre along with a vast Unknown space I have yet to explore.

*Chuckles* Well, they sound good; I'm sure you'll be able to think up some good ones for other countries with a different letter.

I call my world Ccwiicc because that is its name in Rwano, and Rwebhu is Rwemun, so that's what she calls it. I didn't even realize that until just recently, but...well, I suppose its as good a name to call it as any. :D

That's such a cool way to find a name for your world.
How do you pronounce that?

Quick. :D Easy. The alternate spelling is Kwik, which might make it more obvious, but I vacillate between spellings because I don't want to annoy her. * wry * Especially at the moment. Ccwiicc is the way to spell it in my Rwano phonetic system, Kwik is in the general phonetic system (otherwise known as GPS :D). It means Rock.

So, technically, you could have the people in your book calling the place they live in World?

I recently started calling my world The Sfer (pronounced "sphere") because the planet is sphere-shaped and that's how the characters would spell it.

I call my world Gwedel which means..G-Good, E&L-Elves, D&W-Dwarves. So it means Good elves and Dwarves. :D

Yay! You said Lupa! Which means earth and Mundo means World.
