It is a rule in the tribes for aesthetic purposes. Like for example, in our world, in some schools, it is a rule for boys and girls to keep their hair above a certain length. It's kinda like that.

What kind of hairstyles do people have? Do they adorn their hair with ribbons or jewels? Dye or curl it? Do children have different styles than adults?

Its all cultural. I always picture my females with flowers, since they are close to nature. The hair doesn't matter for age.

Flowers definitely makes sense. Do they do any braiding or something similar?

If they want to. There are no obligated hairstyles.
