In my world, Zeldia, people gain basic knowledge like math, grammar, reading, writing, etc. from their parents, but, everything else they learn by themselves. For example, in my three tribes there are the Zeewoks, the Zeeans, and the Zeeacs. The Zeewoks are the artistic tribe, so they educate themselves in the areas of the arts. The Zeeans are fighters, so they educate themselves by training and making battle strategies for themselves. And finally, the Zeeacs are the magical tribe, so they learn how to wield their magic properly by themselves.

You COULD be an apprentice if you want to learn more. But someone has to be willing to teach you.

Usually apprenticeships are a win-win setup: the teacher gets free labor for a certain number of years and the apprentice learns his craft. Is there a reason someone wouldn't be willing to teach? I.e., a strong societal push to "learn for yourself"?

Are there any traditions in various areas that are held onto and passed down? Are there any things that are expected to be or not to be done? How about strict warnings of things not to do? Particularly in the areas of magic.

Hmmm... I haven't actually thought of those things! I will post them if I can think of it.
