Well, it's nearly October which means it's nearly November, which means it's definitely time to start figuring out NaNo projects, right? :D I know we've had threads like this before, but obviously they have been archived for good reason.

So, if you have questions about NaNoWriMo (like what in the world is it), drop them here and I or someone else will be happy to answer them for you! Short answer is that NaNoWriMo is
Quote:
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing.

On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

Don't be scared, you don't have to do all 50k if you don't want to, but I highly encourage it. ^_^

In this thread, feel free to post:
1. Your username on the site if you've logged in
2. Your novel title (and logline/teaser if you have one)
3. Novel genre
4. Word goal you hope to achieve

(Please note, the NaNo site will be getting a revamp for the new novel-writing season in the next couple weeks, and you can upload info on your new novel come early October.)

Just to get us started off. We'll invite more discussion as it goes. ;)

I want to do NaNo, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit it in. Last year I was a rebel and did 50,000 words of short stories since that was easier than writing a novel. This year, however, I might have even less time for NaNo.

But I'll do it if I possibly can. :D

Don't think I'll have time for it, unfortunately, but I wish I did. It's fun.

Working Title: TDW 1428.2 AKA "Dad"
Genre: Christian Tween Sci-Fi

Synopsis:

The Dragons won the Wardn Sangrean Games title and head to Steel to compete against other planetary teams. Instead of competing for trophies they wind up battling darkness for family and friends.

Exerpt:

"I can't do any better than this, Bilge Rat. I'm a slave and that's my lot in life. The Creator has it in for me."

"No." Gray said. She reached out and put her small hand on his broad shoulder. "No. My dad was a slave, once. He doesn't talk about it much, I know it hurts him. Mother says it made him the strong man he is today. The good man. The Creator will do the same for you, if you let Him."

"You with fine manners and straight teeth? You dad was a slave? I doubt that."

"Ben Webb." Gray said quietly. "I am Anwyn Grace Webb-Marston. My father is Benjamin Webb. Former slave. He chose not to let others determine his limits."

"Old Ben Webb, eh?" The man loked around. "I knew of a Ben Webb back in the day. He freed a lot of slaves but my ship jumped out before he got there." He sighed. "Ben Webb, you say?"

Feel free to post questions, request word wars, proclaim victories, commiserate over troubles, etc. in this thread. That's precisely what it's here for. :salute:

I'll probably have HW chat open whenever I'm writing, and I love word wars and sprints and just talking about NaNo and helping people out (and getting help too) so don't hesitate to join me. :D

A good list of apps that can shut off your social media for during your writing time

As well as those that can help you focus on the actual writing itself. Useful. :D

Great job, Caeli!

I'm up to just over 6,000 right now.

Thanks for the tips you gave. Another one that I've found helpful is Cold Turkey. You literally cannot do anything on your computer until you have reached the goal you set whether it be words written or time lapsed. Kind of creepy, but also helpful.

I've heard of Cold Turkey, and the ones like it. They kind of freak me out and I don't want them on my computer? XD XD But veeerrryyy useful. ;)

And, I probably need them because I haven't written in four days.

But I finally have a vague plot outline and that gives me lots of courage and calm, so not worried about the wordcount at this point. ;)

Starting at 6,800+ tonight.

I let myself read, but not reply to, things until my word count goal is reached. Moving around physically and skimming a game forum for a minute gives my body and head a break and then I get back to it. Granted, I've woken up while still typing. More than once. But I'm on track for word count.

Three more chapters to write before hitting the hay Saturday, and then a few days break. I normally wear out about two thirds of the way in a writing month so this time I'm going to try to put my mind elsewhere and see if that helps the writing endurance. Since I just crossed the 25K line, I have some room.

Awesome job on reaching that word count! :D I'm still sitting at roughly 18k, but I've found that I'm actually more productive by letting myself take some days off and then putting on massive bursts. Possibly why I like word wars/sprints, and even NaNo itself so much. ;)

It's really cool seeing everyone's writing habits show up in pretty intense form during November.

My plot is moving far too slowly for my tastes, but I think it's beginning to shape up. xD

I keep forgetting to post in here! I'm over 24,000 now and aiming for 25,000 today. The latter half of the month will generate less words since I'll be editing more than I'll be writing, but my goal is 40,000 anyway, so that works. :)

Whoot! :dieshappy: That's fantastic. I wrote roughly 6k yesterday and am trying to get in about the same amount today, since it's my last day off this week. ;)

Currently at 25,300

That is fantastic!

Martin Dougherty writes for a living and I think he said he averages about 5000 words a day as a full time professional writer.

:D Well, it hasn't been very good, solid, well-crafted writing, but thanks! Just lots of pouring out words through the keyboard. ;) I'm very happy with being able to get some things accomplished creatively, and I've been enjoying the past two days of pretending I do write for a living. XD

Stopping at about 26,000 something-or-other so I can work on resurrecting my decrepit writing blog. ;)

Great job, Caeli! From now on, my writing progress will be slower as I finish up my novella (less than 2K left!) and start editing instead. I do have some scenes to add to the novel I'm editing, so I will have some words to add. :)

I write full time, but I also have a life, so I wish I could write that much per day, but I can't. :)

Some of us view "can't" as a four letter word. I have a full time job and I can crank out 2-3 k before work. Let me encourage you to believe you can achieve what's important. Not living in a fantasy life, but we often limit ourselves unnecessarily.

Understood. Yet I bet you bring something to the world that I don't, and I bet the world needs to hear what you have to say. Find your ministry of words.

Yay! I ended my NaNo break today and got in a little over my daily goal of 2,000. This book is a lot more planned out, mostly so I can see how extra planning does for my writing. So far it's helped a good bit.

That's great!

I did get a little more writing done, so my total was about 3,100 and my total word count for the month is 29,000 something. Tomorrow I start going through beta-reader edits again and then it's on to a thorough read-through and edit and adding some lengthy scenes.

It's so awesome to hear everyone's updates! :D :D

I've been heavily procrastinating, and out of sync with my story (which I did not plan well for, and I work best with a plan), so I'm about 11,000 words behind, but hoping to catch up on some of that today. :)

I up to 33,793 now! Which surprises me, since I didn't expect to actually do much writing this week (I'm editing).

With the official "Made It" behind me, there are still a few chapters to write. I'm looking forward to these.

I'm sitting at just over 43,100. Not too concerned yet, but I've got a lot of writing ahead of me tonight and tomorrow. ;)

I did it. I almost can't believe it, but I really did it. 50,510 according to the NaNo website. The most I'll probably get total is 51,000, though since I won't be able to write much, if anything, today.

Yaaay! Captain, my Captain, you've done it! :D Huzzah!

I'm at 48,100 something and getting ready to write the next few hours away 'til I reach the end. ;)

For everyone that made it: BIG, HUGE MASSIVE CUPCAKES, TONS OF PUNCH, AND ENOUGH GLITTER TO DROWN IN! YAY!! :dieshappy:

For everyone who didn't: SHOW YOURSELF AND CONFESS. Just kidding! How far did you get?

What is everyone planning on doing with their NaNo novels now that November is over? Who still has writing left to do to finish the story?

I'm planning to continue editing the novels I worked on in November and publish them in the Spring or Summer. :D

I am editing Book 1 from July Camp NaNo, letting Book 2 (Nov) settle, and planning Book 3 for April Camp, maybe. December is chock full of editing and I'll probably dive into "what do you do with a book after you write it" starting in January.

I did ^_^ I just hid myself away afterwards and haven't been around to update my progress on this thread. XD

CONGRATS EVERYONE, LOVE YOU ALL!

My plans are to let Cloy sit for a while, maybe. It needs a heck of a lot more development before I try to write another, more complete draft. I may go back to work on dear old The Talents Guild, but my problematic child project is still being problematic, so we shall see. ;)

Good job, Caeli! I'm glad you were able to finish. I hope the editing process goes well.
