| Post subject: | Do you Ever Write the Opposite of your Convictions? |
Do you ever write the opposite of your convictions? For instance, I don't agree with the death penalty; but in my world I would probably have the death penalty in some places, even though I personally totally disagree with it. You might think that smoking is wrong, but your MC might smoke. You might personally go for courtship rather than dating, but you might have dating in your book. Do you do this in your writing? |

I have this difficulty a lot. It is really hard for me to recognize that characters might react differently to my convictions. Once I focused on the personalities of the characters and what they thought, it was easier for me to recognize how a particular person (or, in my case, an animal) might react differently than my morals. |

I have no problem with having the policies and morals of my characters and nations not line up exactly with my own. I don't think I ever written a nation that worked like my ideal nation would. Because I really don't think humans could possibly have a perfect society. And with my characters as for villains as far as i'm concerned they can have the complete opposite morals as i do (after all they're villains!) With my "good" characters there obviously has to be many morals that i have myself but i'm not too picky with smaller details especially if that characters is a product of a corrupt society. There are some things I do that really never come into stories (as of yet that is.) Such as the fact I eat Kosher. I've never had a Morally upright character eat an unclean food. But I've never made a big deal about it or even brought attention to it. |
