Some of us are raised in close knit families - others are raised in broken families. Some are raised in homes with single mothers.

Can anyone give me a list of Christian books about single mothers? *Would be very interested to see it*

Personally I think they're some of the bravest people out there. One of my friends is a single mother to her five children, - the youngest is 6. She struggles daily but she trusts God to help her through each day.

Have you ever considered writing about single Mothers?

I think they're a group of people I'd like to see more written about; in this day and age especially, being raised in a home with a single parent is something I'm seeing a lot more of these days. I've read books about single Dad's, but none I don't think about single Mothers.

Honestly, the first/only (and fictional) book I've read about a single mother is "Never Let You Go" by Erin Healy. It's a good book, I like it a lot, but the father is sort of in the picture still so I'm not sure how well it qualifies. (I can think of far more stories that have children mc's who are just with their mother...)

There is quite a lot of books that use the single parent trope. (Especially single mothers.) It's a good way of getting your young MC so freedom and emotional issues. Also it works for making your reader identify with your MC because there are so many young people today living in homes with single parents.

I use it somewhat in my novel. My MC is taken from his home at an early age (9 currently) and for a time is raised my a single old knight. From ages 13-17 he lives in a school with teachers as his only authority figures. Later in his twenties he finds out his mother is still alive but not his father. So basically he doesn't really meet his mother till he is quite old.

I have a few characters whose mothers are single mothers, but not a story about single mothers. I'm not sure why though. I think it's probably because most of my characters are young still.

For a prominent character, it is a position I hesitate to use because I'm not certain I could tackle the complexity. I don't think I write parent characters well, with the elements of joy, pride, madness, worry, stress, wonder, and versatility already present, I'm not certain I could manage the traditional parent, let alone adding the responsibility of the husband into the mix.

That is another good point as well. That would be incredibly difficult to write. I couldn't pull it off, so I'll probably stay away from writing such a thing as well.

I can't think of any books I've read that were about single mothers. Unless Little Women would be one, because the father was not there during most of it.

Oh, David Copperfield's mother was by herself because her husband died before David was born. She was single for awhile, before she married Murdstone. But the book isn't really about her.

It would be nice to see more, but I don't know how one would go about it. I am curious to learn though.
