Note: So you know, while this character is from a fantasy story, it's a fantasy story with a modern tech level. So less swords and medieval dresses and more guns and motorcycles.
Ardath is in her twenties, an only child (so far as I know), and a Daytimer (a citizen of the City of Day as opposed to the City of Night). She is also an empath, capable of sensing the emotions of people around her. Ever since she was kidnapped some months ago and used as the focus for some powerful and nasty blood magic, her empathy allows her to manipulate and project emotions as well. Being a "corrupted" Talent (empath, telepath, or seer) usually results in being locked up and drugged into apathy and near-insensibility because the common perception of corrupted Talents is that they always become evil, so Ardath is very hesitant to use her abilities.
During the day, Ardath is a receptionist at a government office. It's boring and she's not fond of it but she puts up with it because it pays her bills. Due to her kidnapping, she was able to take time off of work (in which time she never left her apartment unless she had to) but has recently returned to her job.
She also recently encountered a group of Nighttimers who have been investigating odd anomalies around the city and has tentatively joined up with them to help. They're aware of her corrupted abilities and she joined them in part because they pointed out that they know and (mostly) don't care, which wouldn't be true of most people she might encounter.
She's getting some basic empath training from one of the Nighttimers, who is a touch telepath but understands things like mental shielding that weren't taught well to Ardath when she was first training.
