Post subject:  Character Interview: Fox

(When I typed the title of the thread in, I put down Qoyili instead of Fox, since that's what I know him by most, but then I remembered that Fox is actually his real name. So if I ever accidentally refer to someone called Qoyili in this post, it's just Fox. :P  )

I don't know too much about Fox, comparative to my other characters. He has a thing about secrets, and apparently I was not excluded from his secrecy. But attempting to write an introduction actually helped me discover more about him than I knew before that, so I'm rewriting it to include the new information. :D

Qoyili believes he is always going to have conflict with his father and his brothers, and it's been proven scientifically that what you believe will happen affects what really does happen. He is no exception.

He is afraid of his father even though he knows his father loves him. He does not believe that he is a man worth respect, and so he doubts whether his father respects him. He doubts whether he is worthy of respect because he grew up in a family of brothers who were all quite similar to each other, and to his father – quiet, steady, reserved, decisive, and responsible – and he thought that that was the correct way to be. However his natural character is quite different – out going, perceptive, imaginative, careless to an extent, and with a desire to be accepted and to fit in. He has spent most of his life attempting to be like them, and failing. They do not blame him for being different, but he blames himself, and causes friction because of it.

He came to identify himself as being the one who was always opposed to the people he loved. This was yet another self fulfilling belief. He even ended up being opposed to them purely by chance, sometimes, by miscommunication or complicated situations that he did not deal with well. He kept too many secrets, because he was afraid; and like I mentioned before his father and brothers are naturally quiet. And silence is often the root of difficulties.

He wants to marry a woman he loves, but does not want to alienate her from her family, which is very important to her life, and decided not to pursue her. He did not tell her any of this.

He is fair skinned, fair haired, and fair eyed. He is very tall, but not very broad. He is strong. He is skilled in fighting, especially cobhaic, and in strategy – he was trained by his father, who is one of the best. He likes riding horses. He likes talking to people. He likes new things.

Please address the questions to him, I think he'd enjoy answering them. :)

Why would marrying the woman you love alienate her from family?

What about your Mother? You don't ever mention her, did you know her at all? Do/did you have a good relationship with her?

Are you the youngest in your family?

Did any certain event make you so insecure with your family and your own nature, or have you always been like that?

I like you, Elanor. * smiles ever so slightly * You ask horrible questions, and don't apologize.

Because we have the same family – we are not related by blood, but our families are connected tightly by friendship and by marriage.

That is because she died of fever when I was less than a year old. I do not remember her now. When she died, life was a little horrible for my family. And when my second mother died, life was a little more horrible.

My father married her when I was six. She made us happy. Then she was murdered by a drunk Nnanwe who did not even know her name. I did not see her again, as my father's friend, who found her, had to destroy her body before it was desecrated by another drunk Nnanwe.

I do not think my father will marry again. I do not want him to, if she is only going to die too. I would rather die myself, it would be less painful. I think my father feels the same way.

I am the youngest. My brother closest in age to myself is nine years older than me.

* thinks for a little while * * shakes head *

What is your greatest fear? Aspiration?

Do you have a moral standard?

A question off one of the answers for Elanor: Have you any desire to avenge your mother?

Are you afraid that your father will hurt you (physically/emotionally) or are you just afraid that he won't respect you?

Is there anyone you feel comfortable confiding in?

Continuing to ruin things. Like I am doing. And likely will be doing for a long time. I left the colonies for awhile, but now I am back, and it is all happening again.

Analea Varisha wrote:
Aspiration?
Change some of the Hall policies. That is not the most original aspiration, but there is enough for everyone to change. Some of the things they do make me see red when I think about them.

No. I practice marksmanship by killing street children. * laughs with a hint of mocking *

And Mee, everyone has a moral standard. (Juliet: Mee is like 'mister', but gender-neutral)

Who would I kill? The <censored by author> who didn't even know her name and didn't remember doing it the next day? The crowd of men in there who were just as likely to do it as he was? The chemistiers man, who didn't stop him? My father, for not being there? The whole, bloody world of people who just want to stay alive and never manage it without destroying everyone else? I could just kill myself, would that make you feel better? Then there wouldn't be any of my pain to avenge. And I've hurt people too. A lot of people....

Why can't strangers ask questions about things that don't hurt so much to think about? * frowns and presses hand to forehead *

* does not move for a bit *

I do not understand what you mean.

Juliet: You are afraid of your father, and she knows you are. So she's asking about it.

My father – loves me. Please don't...

Juliet: But you are afraid of him. She wants to know what you are afraid of him doing – why you are afraid of him.

So do I. * smiles with his jaws locked *

Zoe M. Scrivener wrote:

* teeth still clenched * Not just now.

* turns half away and crosses his arms over his face * (Juliet: the arm gesture is a common way of focusing cobhaically on closing yourself off and defending from penetration)

...

I am sorry. * lowers arms *

* sets head to one side and crosses arms on his chest * Yes, I do have someone I am comfortable talking to, telling her things. The girl I love. She understands much. I don't tell her everything, however, to protect her.
