Tinsley is a half-human, half-elf. She has mousey, tangled brown hair, a heart-shaped face, partially pointed ears, and her left eye is yellow and has coloboma (a disease which misshapes the pupil into a keyhole and sometimes blinds). she is seven feet tall, as elf genes are usually dominant and elves are tall.
She was not born out of a legal union, in fact it is against natural law for humans and elves to mate, so the fact she's alive at all is remarkable. Her father, an Elf named Tynni, did not stay with her mother for more than a few days, leaving her mother alone months later when Tinsley was born. Her mother named her Tinsley, to mean "Tynni's grave", indicating her fervent hatred towards him, but unfortunately, the elvish translation is "evil of Tynni", the root words making that Tinsley herself was evil, and not the act committed. After seething openly and severely both to and against the six-year-old Tinsley, her mother abandoned her to the elves, since she had pointed ears and several strange disorders her mother didn't want to deal with. "Your father hates you. I never wanted you. You will never have friends, or a man to love you. You are not worthy of love!" Are some of the many things her mother told her daily. However, the seed of bitterness was already planted.
When the other elf children heard her parentage, they mocked her with cruel names, one of which cut her deeply and shaped most of her life: "bezprawne-zla", or, "illegitimate evil". She finally decided to live up to that title, but more on that later.
She has been tricked into believing elves were her friends, only to be spat at and both verbally and physically abused when she was satisfyingly deceived. She gives as well as she gets when it comes to physical torment, though, as she is strong and quick. Verbally, however, she has no comebacks, and will retort with a screaming fit similar to a temper tantrum, or will stew in silence until she seems the time is right to strike.
When she was younger she displayed slow learning tendencies, which the elves decided was from the human genes meddling with elves'. She seems to have overcome this slowness, however, though it is difficult to determine if she really is insane or only pretends to be so, as she has many cunning strategies usually played out in her mind already.
She loved to study herbs and their effects, and memorized most of the books there were on the topic. She became an herbalist at one point because of this.
She has been lied to and put down her entire life. When she couldn't take any more anger, she tried to kill herself. She failed, however, and this led to her discovery of the evil powers found within the walls of Heilaga Miasto, powers that would for once--she thought--put her above others. She was an adept sorceress, but she felt a strange feeling the longer she was one, and tried to put the acts behind her.
Next she became an assassin. It was difficult to hide her tall, lean body in inconspicuous places and see with one eye doing the work of two, but she was happy in the position. She felt a sort of twisted pleasure at innocent people's lives taken at her hands, just as her own life, though once innocent itself, had been scarred and destroyed before it had a chance. Recently she has been out of that field as well, and has taken to wandering aimlessly through the forest, where no one's cutting words can reach her, though they ring endlessly though her mind.
She has hundreds of thick walls built up around her heart, and will never tell a single soul the truth of anything. She lies often, but accuses others of lying even if they are truthful. She hates liars, yet she is one.
Her greatest desire (though she doesn't recognize it and it would take years for her to accept it) is to be loved. A real love that would not mock her, despite her scars, despite the things she couldn't control and the things she could. It's something she's dying for, but pushes away those who try to give it with her knife-point.
Her deepest fear is rejection. She acts careless of hurts others inflict, but it tears pieces of her away each time it happens, and each time that pain grows sharper. She does a lot to avoid rejection, which usually means she is unknowingly avoiding the potential to be loved as well.
When she was very very young she wanted to be a princess. She grew up to be a murderer and a thief, a lair and a witch. Needless to say, this hurt her more than anything. She can't hide from herself.
