Here's another supporting character:

Fathe is twenty-three years old. She's a Messenger. She joined the services rather late, at the age of four, and was slow to be paired up and released into fieldwork.

While she was waiting, she made good use of her time, befriending new children and helping them feel welcome.

There was another trainee who also progressed slowly, and he was later paired with her once they were ready to begin working. They're very close, and have been training (not working in the field) together for a very long time.

Did she want to be a Messenger? Does she admire her companion she trains with? Has she any dreams for the future?

No, which is why it took so long for her to begin training.

She does, but they have agreed there will be no romance between them...at least while they're still at work.

She wishes to marry some day and have children. Not too many, mind you.

Did she have to leave anyone behind to become a messenger? If so, does she remember them? Does she wonder if they miss her? Does she hope to ever reunite with them?

Yes. She had to leave her mother who was her best friend as a very young girl. Her father is in the same section as she is, so she was able to remain with him.

She does. Her mother still visits whenever she returns to the base.

Gwendolyn wrote:

Not really. She takes it as a given.

Well...no. When children join the ranks, they never look back. Parents may never force their children to join. (Which is why it took her a while to join, explained up there. ^^)

Why did she feel reluctant about joining?

Does she feel safe?

Does she believe herself competent?

When she was younger, she wanted to join, but she also didn't want the duty that came along with it.

Yes, quite safe alongside of her partner.

Mistress Rwebhu Kidh wrote:

Yes, she feels completely confident in her ability to handle danger.

What is she afraid of?

Does she have a special bond with children? How and why?

She's afraid of not being able to protect those she loves. She'd feel like she were a failure.

Not in particular. A gift of hers is making people feel welcome, which is what she did with Myah.
