The main race of my world, nothing extremely special.

The Ashtains were the first race in the land of Ashta and lived for many generations in peace. Like the rest of the world they were created by Attensie (my God figure).

History of the Ashtains
Before the Xenon’Hafa Yapita (the war between the Zarack and the Ashtains) The Ashtains were peaceful and their nation covered both North and South Ashta. They had explored West until the sea and East until the Black Lands. They had never ventured above the GimsakMigamons (great mountains) to the wintry regions above. They had many cities, their capital being the city of Tenin in the South Ashta. Every 12 and 1/2 years they held the Attensini’Kenko-Iraph; a celebration in honor of Attensie.
During the war with the Zarack, Ashtain borders were pushed back to the very edges of South Ashta. The Ashtains had to quickly make the change from peace to war. Thousands of Ashtains were lost before their king was able to lead them in their first victory. But the war dragged on and it seemed as if the Zarack had endless supplies of men and beast. Their king, Avast, and his second-in-command, Darjee, were able to hold the Zarack at the borders of South Ashta, but the war was taking it's toll.
Then came the news that Avast had been killed. The Ashtains were panicked and the Council took over ruling, leaving Darjee in command of the army. Years passed, a new ruler was crowned and, with help from the creatures of Ashta, was able to defeat the Zarack.
Peace returned, but not for long. When their "Conqueress" had passed on, a new enemy arose. Teynon. And with him many Ashtains that had secretly left and joined him during the end of the last war.
This was the war against magic. Waged between Teynon and Tenoss. Once again the Ashtain were caught off guard. They had never heard of magic and had no protection against it. More death and destruction followed until Attensie gave Tenoss the power to overcome Teynon and his followers.

These were the major points in Ashtain history. Years of peace followed them until other races began appearing in Ashta. More wars broke out and soon the Ashtains had to hide to stay alive. They found refuge with the Yatay and soon their blood had mixed with them, creating the Ashtay. This left only one line of unbroken Ashtain blood. After many years the descendants of Tenoss (the unbroken line) ruled over the Endless Sands from the city of LigrarenNabatae.
The daughter of the last Ashtain king (El-Namah) married a Duvat creating the Ashvat. So the line of the Ashtains ended.

Description

Here's a description of the Ashtains by one of my charaters:
Quote:
When we first saw them we almost thought they were dryads come from the birch trees that surrounded us. For they were so much in likeness to them it was hard to distinguish the two. After a few moments of observation I found they looked something like this; tall, some even reaching the heights of nine or ten feet, slender and white like the birch trees. In some instances they resembled the stories we have heard of the elves, but their ears were not pointed. Their faces were pale and smooth, with eye colors ranging from icy blues and inky blacks to warm violets and sparkling greens. They had only two hair colors, black and white of which the strands were either wavy or straight. Their garments were made of long dresses hung down from their shoulders that made them look even taller and more slender. There was almost no color to the cloth, except for those belonging to the higher status in their society. When there was color it was either ice blue or emerald green. They wore no shoes, but seemed to glide over the mossy terrain like the breeze. The Ashtains, as they call themselves, dwell only in birch groves of which there are many in this strange new land we have come to.

To clarify, this is a later description of the Ashtains. (after they became all solemn and uppity  ) The person describing them is a Yatain (one of the Yatay)

Well.....I'm going to stop here. I'm sure I've skipped a few things posting this :P There's more but some of it involves the other races so much I need to introduce them to continue. Questions please! I'm looking to "deepen" this race since they're the 'most important' in my world.

Thank you! :D

Their history sounds interesting, though since I don't have a grasp of your fantasy world I can't make a good judgment. I like how they blend into other races at the end, and the name changes - for some reason, that's intriguing.

I'd like to know more about their lifestyle, too. Do they live and grow mostly as humans do? Same life span? Family structure? Diet?

They remind me a little bit of a race from Star Wars II. On the rainy planet that made the original batch of clones from Jengo Fett, the natives were very tall, slender, silvery people. I don't know what they're called, but their appearance reminds me a bit of these.

The planet was called Cameno (spelling?) and their inhabitants were called Camenoins (spelling?). I loved that race, and your creatures have a same basic feel. They are interesting and unusual.

They're not as skinny as the Camenoins (thanks Airianna :D ) from Starwars and have normal/human proportions. (except that they're stretched a bit more vertically)
They (somewhat) grow the same as humans, but slower because they live quite a bit longer. *does some calculations* Their average lifespan was about 70k years until the Shrooga (shortening)
The Shrooga occurred over the course of several years. It caused the Ashtains to have shorter lives (to between 125-650 years) and lessened their height (to around 6-8 feet tall).
The Shrooga was caused (by Attensie) because of all the bloodshed from the Zarack and Teynon. The later 'falling away' of the Ashtains (also called the Days of Darkness) caused them to fall away from Attensie and he turned his back on them. The Days of Darkness was when the Ashtains ignored Attensie's command to never use magic. This was also when the other races began showing up in Ashta and why the Ashtain's were unable to win against them.

Kay, veering away from their history again ;)

Diet? hm.... They mainly eat a human diet, but Ashta has different foods from Earth. I have a few of the animals they hunt, but can't recalled them at the moment. Once I get a chance to read through my "Encyclopedia" I can list a few
I'll have to think a bit to write a specific family structure ;)

Do they have a general personality? I got the impression they were calm, peaceful people. Was there any specific groups/people that varied from it? How did/would the others react to this?

They were (before the war with the Zarack) a quiet, peaceful race. But they still have very human emotions. It wasn't until after the Shrooga and during the Days of Darkness that they became solemn and withdrawn.
When roused they become determined fighters, unswerving in their choice to fight.
The only group that believed/acted different was the Followers of Teynon (Magicians of Teynon) and I think I covered how that went down above.

I'll have to post a list on my topic about the E'shawnti. That may answer a few questions about the Ashtains ;)

That's good. If they were your main race, and had little/no human emotions, they would be hard to relate to. (i.e. we can sympathize with hobbits easily, but it can be a bit harder to relate to elves, no offense to Tolkien intended)

I'll keep an eye on it, then. And I'll let you know if I have more questions. ;)

I like them! One of the names, Avast, is a out of place, almost. It makes me think, "Avast, me hearties!" for some reason. Umm, I had something else too. (scans topic again) Aha! Why 12 1/2 years?

Oh yeah, it's Kamino and Kaminoans. I used to be really into Star Wars.

Because the Ashtains measure time in months (Yurga as they call them). The celebration is held every 150 yurga. This amounts to 12 1/2 years :)

You know, I came up with Avast's name and didn't even think of it at the time. I realized it later, but the name had already stuck. I may change it in the final draft, who knows :P

Wow, Vilissë! That's a pretty awesome description of Ashtains. Out of curiosity, have you thought about asking for a World sub-forum here on HW? Your worlds seems pretty well-developed; I'm impressed! =D

Plus you can further develop it a bit more, I think. (I feel for Eruheran, he's all alone in there.)
