It seems that a lot of the topics here are people asking for help in naming things. I don't know how well this will work for anyone else, but I have a method for naming, especially when it applies to people. I use a couple name-meaning websites, which give lists upon lists of not only every name imaginable (apparently some of my names aren't made-up after all!) but also the meanings of the names. I like to choose names based on my characters' attributes, although that doesn't always work. For example, the Divine Being (God) in my current trilogy is called Avitul, which is Hebrew for father.

This might not work so well for geography and creatures, but it's worth a try. You'd be floored at how many cool names you can find when you start looking.

Works in progress

The Skyriders Trilogy (outlining)

What Waits in Shadow (fantasy short story--editing)
The Stranger's Gift (fantasy short story--editing)
The Crystal Orb (fantasy short story--writing)
And too many half-started ideas to count

Tarin! I've missed you! :D *tacklehug*

That is a very good idea you have, and one I use often. A way I find is fun to figure out names for locations is to, erm... look through the wine section in my grocery store, and base names off of the brand names. :P It often yields some pretty cool names; Erathna, Cambria, Tamarack, and Lockwood (places in my world of Solarii) are all names based off of wines.

That's a neat idea, Tarin! (Lovely to see you!)

I have used google translate to find out the meaning of words in another language, and sometimes used that word for my names. However, I'm gonna have to look into those websites as well! :) Thanks! I think I always seem to find naming my characters really hard!
