| See also: Sleep Deprivation Illness Dehydration Hunger Heat Cold And NotThatShort's spin-off threads: Specialized Edition: Fire Specialized Edition: Phobias Specialized Edition: Mental Illness Specialized Edition: Disabilities Specialized Edition: Developmental Delays/Disorders This can include paralyzation, blindness, deafness, etcetera, though I don't like to call deafness or blindness disabilities because most blind/deaf people don't consider it a disability themselves. But I couldn't think of what else to call it, so... Any information about disabilities that we can use to help us along in our writing? | |

| Wikipedia can have some useful information on blindness; I found most of the information about one of my character's blindness there. Unfortunately, they don't really have much information on accidents that cause blindness, only illnesses. They probably have more info on subjects like paralysis and deafness than blindness, though I haven't checked recently. | |

| Thanks, Vace. Deafness is pretty straightforward. Depending on how deaf a person is, they may need to learn sign language in order to communicate. Most can also read lips, though it's very difficult and not an exact science. I'm assuming since fantasy worlds don't usually have well-developed technology, that information on cochlear implants would be redundant. But if anyone needs it, I'll be happy to oblige. | |

| Does anybody have any info about mutes? Not deaf, just mute. And I'm not falling into that trend of cruel authors cutting out their characters' tongues. He was born that way. | |
