Hello everyone! This is a poll, but I'm also interested in open ended discussion, so if you think of names that aren't included in the poll, please include them!

So, the question is, when you think of an "anti-hero" what are names that pop into your head?

And FYI, an anti-hero is a "protagonist who lacks the attributes that make a heroic figure, as nobility of mind and spirit, a life or attitude marked by action or purpose, and the like." My thanks to dictionary.com. :)

Nessa- She's given up the veil, the vows she'd sworn, abandoned every effort to conform. Without a word to anyone she's gone her way alone, a dove escaping back into the storm.

Nolan- And though I don't understand why this happened, I know that I will when I look back someday, and see how you've brought beauty from ashes, and made me as gold purified through the flames.

Azriel- And who do you think you are, running round leaving scars, collecting your jar of hearts, and tearing love apart? You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul, so don't come back to me. Don't come back at all...

Both Enki and Altair seemed like good names... Enki seems more to fit a more tricksy type of anti-hero and Altair a more up-front brawnish type of anti-hero... that's my impressions of the names, at least...

*dies of shock* :0 o.O  I have an Altair in one of my books!

So I voted for Enki, since I can't go against my own character, who wasn't an anti-hero at all.

I voted for both Altair and Enki.

Wolf conjures up more thoughts of action, swiftness, and loyalty (as wolves do) so that seems pretty far from an anti-hero.

Quinn also sounded like too sharp a name. More like kind of person who knows what they want out of life.

Enki didn't roll off the tongue so well though.

Dustin and Altair. Altair just... sounds like it. But Dustin was the name of an anti-hero in a fanfiction I read...

Outside of fan-fic, would you have chosen Dustin? :)

Other name suggestions are welcome as well. ;)

I voted for Wolf. Depending on what the tone of your book is, I would love to see an antihero named that; to me it brings out kind of an essence of untrustworthiness. My other vote was for Altair.

Isn't the main character in one of the Assassin's Creed games named Altair? Or was it Alistar? I don't remember, but Assassin's Creed is what I think of when I hear Altair. I'd probably have to go with Wolf, especially if it's a name the character taken upon himself for some reason. Really though, any name can fit an antihero, I think, as long as the name fits the person it's attributed to.

this...

but I voted for Wolf and Quinn because they are awesome names  and I think it would be cool to read a story where a protagonist named Wolf or Quinn runs around lacking the attributes that make a heroic figure.

I voted Altair and Wolf. *nod* because I know nothing of wolves, so I thought of an antihero or villain, and...I don't know why I picked Altair... it just reads antiheroishly to me. (after I quit misreading it as Alastair.... )
