Okay so I have this character that is supposed to loosely resemble Jesus but I'm not sure how to go about it. Should he be strictly like Jesus from the Gospels and act and talk the way he did in the Bible? If so, then I don't know how He would answer a character's question: "Who are you and why are you here?"
Or should I create a new character that acts or would speak differently than Jesus does (still in his perfect character but I mean different) and looks different or should I not describe him at all?
I know people have different opinions. Some don't think that authors should try writing a Christ figure like Aslan because they thought he wasn't accurate to Christ.
I don't know. I do know that I need the Christ figure. The whole reason for this book is to show a relationship between God and man; the walk of a Christian in an allegory, and there will need to be a sacrifice in the backstory.
Or should I just narrate and say he lived he died he rose again bla bla bla and get on with the story? If I did that then I think it would be pretty preachy and I don't want that. It would be like taking the story for granted. That's the way a Christian who has been brought up a Christian might tell it; as if it isn't important (not that a lot of people are like that).
Anyway, what do you think?
I know that in Pilgrim's Progress there wasn't really a Christ figure (or was there?) and in Hinds feet in high Places there wasn't one either. There was just God and Much Afraid.

I think the Christ-figure only has to be similar to Christ in that he is perfect. I don't think he would have to answer questions like Christ did.

I don't think that I know enough of the plot of the book to know if he should be a character in the book or just mentioned in passing...

I think if I repeat things that happen in the Bible, I'll only say it briefly so that I don't bore people who know what is going to happen.

You should make your Christ-figure a new character. If your world was connected to Earth, I could see having Jesus as in the Gospels. But not in a fantasy world. It's too restricting.

Maybe you don't have to say "He lived, he died, he rose again, etc."
You could give out parts of the creed from characters's speech as the story goes, instead of just saying it all at the beginning.

I agree with Kelcin that if you're writing in a fantasy world, then you don't need to be too strict. Look at Aslan as a perfect example. Certain aspects of his character and deeds mirrored Christ, but he was a lion. If you're writing in our world, it becomes a stickier subject.
