Post subject:  Enderion: Main Characters

I'm not sure if this would be the correct place to put this...I'm pretty sure it is, since it pertains to developing my characters...anyways. Here are the main characters in my novel [Unnamed] about the world of Enderion. This should just provide some background that helps people to understand the characters a little bit more.

Warning: Reading this may spoil my book. :D

Zaciré
Zaciré is the main character, and the one whom the book revolves around. The dagger which was lost from the Enclave long ago isn't personally connected to him, but Zaciré's father Rehuan was killed trying to recover it. Thus, Zaciré is on a mission to recover the dagger, not just to save the world, but also avenge his father's death.

Numaryá
Numaryá is the other main character. She accompanies Zaciré on the quest as the third member of the group (see Samsvar, Horsvar) and gets to know Zaciré better throughout the book. She feels a personal responsibility to recover the dagger because her father was the one who stole it...though no one knew this.

Forsvar
Forsvar is the head of the Enclave and the current helt (guardian of the Dagger). Because he is too old to recover the dagger himself (Rehuan, Zaciré's father, had been working for Forsvar) Forsvar must find a replacement who will go instead of him to recover the dagger.

Samsvar
Samsvar is probably Zaciré's best friend. He has known him since birth and is very faithful. He goes with Zaciré on the quest but is later killed. (Hey, someone has to die)

Horsvar (not final name)
Horsvar is Zaciré's second friend that he has known for a very long time. Horsvar turns down the opportunity to accompany Zaciré on his quest, which hurts Zaciré deeply and gives Numaryá the opportunity to go with Zaciré.

Srugoz
Srugoz is the villain. At the time the book opens he controls the entire nation of Qaluros but later expands his control to include Tarbiyaan, Culvinis, and parts of Véhonas. He is the one who controls the dagger when Zaciré begins his quest.

There are my characters. Hopefully this should help you follow things a little bit better as I post things around about Enderion. See links in my signature for more information about this world. :D

Pretty cool. I just have one question: what is Numarya's relationship to Zacire prior to the quest, what is her reason for going with him at all?

OK, I've kind of been wandering throughout the forums in explaining these characters. Anyways, Zaciré doesn't know Numaryá until a few days before the quest begins. He really dislikes her at the beginning, but her motivation to go on the quest is her father, like I said. She is a 'good' character and her father is 'bad' so to speak so she feels a responsibility to right her father's wrong.

Their relationship at the beginning is really awful. Zaciré just seems to hate her because she kind of isn't supposed to be on the quest (It's unheard of at the time for girls to go on quests...sorry girls :)) Anyways, he doesn't really like her and she thinks that he can't recover the dagger, he's too inept, etc etc.

Anyways, Zaciré eventually finds out that Numaryà's father was the one who stole the dagger. He goes ballistic, etc. Throughout the time between Samsvar's death and Horsvar joining them Numaryá and Zaciré really grow closer as Zaciré forgives Numaryá for what her father did, etc. They both have conflicting feelings about their fathers, (I haven't developed all of this yet)

(I just realized I hadn't written this in this thread yet: Horsvar turns down the offer to accompany but shadows them for about two thirds of the quest. He plays a part later when he lets them out of prison.)

And I'm toying with the idea of a 'godly romance' (I think that's the way the forum usually puts it). In the first write I had a blatant romance and none of this character development. So in the rewrite I'm substituting this relationship where they eventually grow to be close friends, instead of a blatant romance. But I'm still thinking of a romance at the end...I'm not sure. :D

Anyways, hope that cleared some things up.

Ok, cool. So Numarya sort of forces her way into the quest when Horsvar backs out? This sounds like you put a lot of thought into it, and good characters usually make a good story!

Yes, Numaryá (who remember has only been at the Enclave for about a week now and is almost a total stranger) takes the chance when Zaciré's long-standing friend Horsvar refuses to go on the quest. She's allowed to go, but, like I said, Zaciré isn't happy about it.

Thanks! I'm trying to really make the characters deep and exciting...since my first revision was very...flat. Sometimes I think writing a book is more like a blog (constantly editing stuff and tweaking it) then baking a cake (you do it once and you're done) :D
