Here's the essence map that I have for Eruheran's username. I have to say that this took me quite awhile, and it's by the grace of God alone that I managed to finish it at all. This is for Him.

What kind of Essence mapping is this? It doesn't look like what we normally use . . .

Wow. Brilliant Seer! I think you have this down better than almost everyone else on the forums. :) That was really well done. I can't wait until you get ahold of ECSS++. :D

Actually, Ciela Rose, this is regular ECSSbasic, like you are all using. Just it is wielded in the hands of a master. If you study this essence map, you can learn a lot. :)

Oh, a quick note, I recognized all of the external references in there but one: Knight of Doredhiel. What is that?

Jay - Knight of Doredhiel is part of Eruheran's signature. He explains its origin in his introduction thread.
Ciela - Jay is correct that I'm using ECSSBasic. I'm using the syntax explained in Lady Rwebhu Kidh's post: X(ECSS)basic Syntax Clarification and Standardization. I think the thing that is most noticeable is that I don't use the "......." as placeholders. I copied the indentations from a sample map on The 3 Literati blog and just copy and paste them into every map I make. The second main difference, is that with their new syntax, any smaller level can go under any equal or bigger level. It allows me to classify things a little more clearly.

Back to Mr. Lauser - I'm glad you got all the references. Wasn't sure if everyone would get Big Dan and Little Ann, but I used them anyway.
As soon as I understand X++ I'll get my hands on it. I was almost tempted to implement the slashes into this map, but decided to keep it basic.
Also - it was ECCSBasic in the hands of a master, THE Master. It took a lot of prayerful consideration to figure out the best way to organize my various impressions, I did not do it alone. If I seem to understand it better, that's because unlike the other HWers I don't write. I have all the time and energy needed to truly excel in Essence because my mind isn't occupied by characters, and plots, and morality issues, etc. Unlike them, Essence isn't just one of many tools that feeds my art of writing, it is my art, which means it gets a lot of attention that the other writers devote to other aspects of their writing.
If I am a "master" it is only in the same way that a novice painter is a "master" compared to a sketch artist. Y'all Lausers with your X++ acrylics still have me beat :) But I'm content to paint away with my ECSSBasic watercolors for now. This map proves that there are virtually no limits to it's uses.

What are you doing starting threads about me, or my username's essence, behind my back?? ;) I really like it, and rereading it since you PMed it to me has helped me understand some more stuff in it.

First of all, Level 1 rapids means (I read in another thread) that this is the outward appearance of rapids, or something? And Big Dan and Little Ann, that's from Where the Red Fern Grows, right?

So Body, Mind, Soul, and Spirit aren't the only things that you can include as the highest level elements? What I still find most confusing in essence is what to put in each category, i.e. when is it a qualifier, or should it be an attribute or and aspect?

Jay, I actually chose Knight of Dorodhiel when I was browsing through an elf names site and clicked on the girl's names instead of the guy's names by mistake. I looked up Cheyenne to see what it was in elvish and really liked the sound of the name. Now I'm sort of percolating a story about eruheran and dorodhiel but as of yet they're just thoughts inside my head.
