Has any of you read "What Katy Did at School"? Yes? Good! You know what game it is I am about to propose! :D No? Well, I had better explain it for you then!

Word and question game is an awesome game that I first heard about in "What Katy Did at School", and I have always wanted to play it with people, but have lacked writers with inspiration with which to play it. (Don't ask why it took me so long to make this thread. :P)

The rules are simple:

You write a random word, and you write a random question. Neither word nor question has to be related. In fact, as far from related as you can get makes the challenge even more fun. ;) The next poster then has to write a poem of at the least two lines that both a) answers the question, and b) uses the word. For example:

Word: Buttons
Question: What is the best way to make a home happy?
Answer: (poem)
To me 'tis quite clear I can answer this right:
Sew on the buttons, and sew them on tight.

- Taken from "What Katy Did at School", yes I cheated. ;)

It can get quite funny at times, and it doesn't really have to make sense! Now there it is. I shall start you off with a word and question that is relatively simple to begin with:

Word: Mouse
Question: Where do you play?

Ooh, fun, Bushes! :D

I play far away in the empty house,
Dancing and prancing with my mouse.

Word: Book
Question: What do you like to cook?

 Have fun!

Ahh. Well... You could go ahead and leave a prompt, maybe, or I could give you one and try Azzy's myself... *looks at the Bushy for guidance* :)

It only has to be two lines, Balec, and it doesn't have to make sense. :D

I don't like to cook chickens
Ducks, coffee or peas,
But I percolate books
In my thoughts like tea leaves.
So if you ask what's for dinner
In my introspective restaurant,
I'll serve up a book and some musing sauce.

Question: Where do words come from?

Author:  Mistress Kidh [ May 29th, 2013, 11:39 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Word and Question Poetry Challenge

Words drop from the sky like rain and dead leaves
No – words are cooked up in an old magic kettle
No – words are thought up by the great ponderous beeves
No – words are forged bright like the smith forges metal
No – words – they just happen, I think, sure and slow
No – I think – I don't know....

Word: Loud
Question: Is the dormouse really always asleep?

(I love this game!)

Post subject:  Re: Word and Question Poetry Challenge

(Love your poem, Rwebhu! and all the rest of these also!)

Loud, loud, the thunderheads speak
While deep in the floorboards
The dormouse feigns sleep
Hum, hum, the thunderheads groan
While under the table
The dormouse does moan
Break, break, the thunderheads snap
While beside the lamp stand
Two dormouse eyes crack
Rain, rain, the thunderheads hiss
While under the thunder
The dormouse hears this
Foom, foom, the thunderheads shout
While just from the doorway
The dormouse sneaks out

Question: What lies beyond?

Author:  Henrietta von Trapp [ October 11th, 2013, 5:20 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Word and Question Poetry Challenge

What lies beyond this life of ours
Its sad or golden hours?
Eternity ‘tis stands beyond –
That blissful, glorious land.

Sincerity? Is that enough
To open Heaven’s gate?
Or word, or deed, or aught of ours
To pay the price of sin?

Simplicity! His grace is all
That brings us unto God!
He through His Son hath mercy shown
And now, I stand redeemed.

So now and ever, all my song,
My joy, my life, my all
Are unto Him, Who loved me so,
And paid my debt of sin.

My risen Lord, my conq’ring King,
Has won the victory!
And through that vast eternity
I’ll joy to sing His praise.

(Thankyou, Caeli. * smiles * This is really challenging.)

Watch them buried
Make no sound
See the hole in the chilly ground
Never cry, never cry, never cry
Humans fall like autumn leaves
Paper faced and laughter dry
A wise young child never grieves
Watch them buried
Never cry

(Oi. I don't like this thread to die, so I'm going to post a poem that i will begin to make up in a moment. It will probably make no sense.)

There was a rocket
That pulled everything out of socket
And started to really rock it
Rock the world
Because this ordinary rocket
Hid in a politician's pocket
Which pulled the government out of socket
Exploded
Right in the politician's pocket

See? That's what you get when you leave me to my own devices.

Question: Why does the fiddle sing?

Dancing in the sunlight,
The particles come to play.
Sparkling, swirling, flying,
In the brightest part of day.

The rosin on the fiddle bow,
It tickles the morning light.
Spraying, flaying, fraying,
To make the music bright.

Across the fiddle strings it flies,
In clouds of magic dust,
Flinging, singing, ringing,
It sings because it must.

Word: Rain.

Okay, I shall have a go...

When rain sprinkles down from above
Meeting the earth with a kiss of love
Igniting the world with a fresh scent
That's what smiles are made of.

When a bird lands upon a nest, a dove
Feeding her babies with a motherly shove
Hushing their cries with a spread of wings
That's what smiles are made of.

When music rises up by the octave
Spinning a story, words elusive
With notes and keys and pedals fast
That's what smiles are made of.
The rhyming got a bit messed up at the end, but oh well.

Question: Why does the wind blow?

Sometimes
the wind whispers
because it is
thinking
of
stars trembling
dripping in the sky
like sapphire oceans roaring.

Sometimes
the wind blows
because it is
singing
of
leaves laughing
in amber paintboxes
and splashing crimson notes.

#1 MAD words:

To the flares
In the sun
In the summer
When it's hot enough for the colors to run
In the rainbow.

#2 SAD words:

To the old blue bottles
With cracks.
The words leak out
The backs,
To make room for more.

#3 BAD words:

To the kitchen sink.

#4 GLAD words:

To the rain
When it rains.

Down the street she ran.
Where she goes, nobody knows.
Except, perchance, her author,
But even that is rather dubious.
Whence does she come from?
Her author knows that, sort of.
What will happen to her?
I guess we all get to find out.
