This just came to me randomly as I was describing a bell tinkling on a shop door. And I wondered if that was an important detail... and then remembered a TV episode last night with a shop door with a tinkling bell....

Tell me if you think this is a brilliant idea or not. What if you sat down with a TV episode and had to rewrite the entire thing as a short story? You'd know exactly what you were writing; characters, dialogue, plot, everything. You wouldn't add anything except the visual aspect that doesn't come across in the dialogue.

I think it would help you learn to pay attention, to describe things, and to mix descriptions with dialog in an entertaining fashion.

Thoughts? Does anyone want to do this with me as a challenge?

That's a good idea. :D It's something people could also try in part, by writing just a full scene from a TV show or movie.

Why?
Because I love you.

HAHA! BRILLIANT! YES! OK... Hrm... This could be tricky and fun... I like writing short stories about what I think could have happened next... so this would be different. I want to try it! ^_^

I think it is a good idea, and a great exercise.

Be careful of your thoughts; guard your mind, for your thoughts become words. Be guarded when you speak, for your words turn into action. Watch what you do, for your actions will become habits. Be wary of your habits, for they become your character. Pray over your character; strive to mold it to the image of Christ, because your character will shape your destiny.

Ideas can germinate from the smallest seeds. Collect those seeds, and let them grow in the back of your mind. You may be surprised by what finally blooms.

When God takes something from your grasp, he's not punishing you. Instead, He’s opening your hands to receive something better. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

I think you're basically converting the story from film into text--it could help you pay attention to details and describe them in words as well as get general writing practice. :D

I think I want to try this! :D
