| See also: Sleep Deprivation Illness Dehydration Hunger Heat Cold And NotThatShort's spin-off threads: Specialized Edition: Phobias Specialized Edition: Mental Illness Specialized Edition: Disabilities Specialized Edition: Developmental Delays/Disorders From asphyxiation on account of smoke inhalation, to the obvious burns, fire can cause all kinds of damage. Do you have any personal experience, or do you know a (true) story of someone who has? (Don't post that person's name, obviously). Your answers would be very helpful to me and others, since fire is featured in a few parts of my series (of which I'm writing the 6th book), and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks! | |

| *Raises hand* I have a story, I frequently burn myself, I'm what you call a slight Pyromaniac, although I have never committed Arson, I still have this slightly. So if it has heat I'm there, whether it's lighting a match starting a fire, lighting a candle, flash cotton, flash paper, smoke bombs. I'm there. So I get burned a lot, and trust me, Fire is never to be trusted. So I burned myself (Duh.) just the end of my finger, nothing much, eh? But then it started to blister, The blister grew really big until it popped. Puss and other liquid poured out. Oh and trust me on this one, burning gasoline when it spits hurts. Burning any type of gas, it will start spitting, and when that lands on you, you scream. I have gotten a third degree burn that way. I have more stories if you want more. | |

| Yuck that's just gross. Haha not that I mind, I want to be a paramedic and you can't mind that kind of stuff when you're rolling a gurney to an ambulance and somebody pukes all over you or something... ANYWAY sorry I'm slightly off topic, I'm exhausted (I get really weird when I'm exhausted--I should get on chat and see what happens! xD) Anyway yes I'm sure more stories would be helpful to everyone. Include what it felt like, please--more than "It didn't feel good", because that's already just slightly implied. | |

| Thanks! didn't mean to sound rude, text on screen has no tone or emotions, so I apologize if I convinced your mind that I was saying it sarcastically. Well, I am sarcastic, but not mean-sarcastic. | |

| I was trying to get a plate for my breakfast when I was eight, but I slipped off the little stool I was on and landed on the stove... it hurt. But when I say I fell on the stove, I don't mean face first or anything, I just tried to prop myself up and I touched the stove. At first I thought that some ice or something would fix it, but it did nothing. Pretty soon the pain was too much and I just ran to my sister in panic. She sprayed my hand with a... spray (duh ) and I felt all better! Sorry, but I'm no good at describing pain. | |

| My arms are covered in burns from the iron. One thing I noticed was how at first for a split second I couldn't feel anything, then the pain hit suddenly. | |

| I've noticed that too, like when taking a dish out of the microwave without realizing it's hot. I've never burnt myself badly with an iron, thank God, but I did burn my elbow with a curling iron once. I didn't feel anything at first, and then it stung, but it wasn't too bad (for me). | |

| My little brother, as a toddler, was stumbling around the kitchen one day and my mom had the oven open to take something out. He started to fall and reached out to catch himself and grabbed the heating element on the oven. It was bad. He cried for a long time and his chubby little hands had blisters all over them. Still makes me cringe to think about. He doesn't have any scars, though. | |

| Wins? Yeah, he's accident prone. In every picture when he was little he always had two or three bruises on his face. | |

| Oh yeah! I forgot! My cousin was running around the kitchen (he was 9) and he accidentally bumped into his mom who was carrying a pot of boiling water with macaroni in it towards the sink to strain it... it did not end well. | |

| A friend's mom was out burning trash, and she was adding some gasoline to the fire, to get it hotter to burn more trash... well...the fire traveled all the way up the gasoline she was dumping to her and burned her all over her arms and face. She needed skin grafts and was miserable for weeks. The burns looked all blotchy (kind of in the shape of a camouflage pattern), and angry red, and it really hurt her because she couldn't use her hands for a while. | |

| Yikes! Oh, and just a reminder (no one in particular) We are not looking for the incident itself-we can all write a burn incident. We're looking for the effects, to help us as writers. What did it look like, how much pain did it cause, how long did it take to heal, are there still scars and how bad, etc. You can still tell about the incident itself even if you know nothing else about the burn's effects, just to help us writers visualize some of our scenes, but the main purpose, I think, is to learn about fire and other hot, flesh-burning things and the way they affect people so as to write more believably. | |

| My brother lit a bonfire we were having using gasoline once... he threw the match on, and the flames suddenly engulfed the pile of branches, and sent out a heat wave of burning fumes that burnt all the hairs off of his legs and arms. XD | |

| They were fine. The blast was so quick and short lived that he didn't have any burns. | |

| I've heard of that happening before, where a quick blast burned someone's hair off but did little or no damage to their skin. | |

| 'xactly. The fumes ignited, and burnt off, nothing else, like skin, having the time needed to cook, burn, or be alighted. | |

I just wanted to say that I have had many burns now, from chemical to normal, so if anyone ever wants to know what would happen if a bottle of butane blew up, or if someone got covered in flammable liquid and light on fire what would happen, I'm a pro when it comes to fire, or I would say a pyro, so if you want to know how easy it is to train your skin to not feel heat(I did that to my thumb once), or anything just PM me and I can help. Or if any one want's to know how to make a fume bottle(Where you light stuff in the air on fire) Just PM me. P.S. one of my characters specializes in fire magic(Incinerating people. ) | |
