| Here is a very big hint: Another essence map. This essence map is of exactly the same thing as the first essence map. It is not of a different part or perspective of the same thing, but of exactly the same thing. And of course, this is a trick hint, in the same way that the original riddle was a trick question. It is not quite as long as the first essence map, but after all it is a hint. Have at it all! An Essence called Gowl --First Impressions Choking dust A darkness that no lamp can be lighted in, a darkness that can be felt Large, hot, dense, spiced sausages, that cause people to talk in their sleep Hot air confined underground Squat, brick houses of dark colors, and deep thatched roofs A short man with many layers of thick clothing, and dark, dense, curly hair Clogged drains Digging fingers into clay A blackened spear The Kargyraa in throat singing A broad, heavy hand A roasted whole loaf of bread, with blackened patches A slowing, congealed river of magma A tree boiling with knots and boles in the bark --Gradually seeing, as you enter the foundations Throat of an ash volcano (SUBTRACT) three Dark, narrow, winding passages A shovel plunged into a bank, or left in the bottom of a trench A slowly moving avalanche A giant, wounded spider dragging itself across the ground A prodigious, bulging beard A heavy, lidded flagon of a dark, steaming brew Groaning gravel The architecture of the Grand Canyon Slaughtering the great boar --Inside the small light in the darkness A weight lying on a lid A blossoming apple tree A black drink Heavy, ball ended club A Wind that caves in Ruined, stone tower, swallowed up with deep ivy One legged, solid wood table A scraped knee Bark, pounded to powder --The End of the essence Great black pot, empty The End of a middle sized book A huge picture frame A sliding robe Flakes of ash falling Please critique the essence map itself too! Do you have any questions? What are your favorite parts? | |

| *head/desk* Sorry, that was meant for you. Every once in awhile my brain will switch the letters around (and make up its own letters to insert as it wills) in certain usernames to make another user's username. | |

| I think I just loved the essence as a whole. It seems like a dark/oppresive/poison essence. And it's really well done. | |

| Thank you. I did not actually try to have a poison essence, and I was thinking more of bulk than pressure, so it misfired a little I suppose. The main thing I was trying to have was thickness. What do you think are my favorite parts? *chuckles, another riddle, but do not think of it that way if you are less likely to guess *chuckles again * * | |

| *nods* I think I put too much emphasis/thought too literally on a few of the essences though, so the problem is partly (if not all) with me. *laughs* Here's a wild guess... | *laughs* I chose the ones that either had a lot of essence, were kinda weird, or both. | |

| A good idea. One of the mean things about my last question was that a lot of my favorite essence elements are things that simply are powerful over my mind, things I can see into the significance of. I really had no idea whether or not that power only would effect me, or if other people would have the same experience. Which ones were the most obviously weird? How do you distinguish when something has a lot of essence? It seems to me from your guesses that the ones you did not get right were where you guessed something weird. What do you think? | |

| I see what you mean. Tsahraf ChahsidMimetes wrote: Which ones were the most obviously weird? How do you distinguish when something has a lot of essence? The sausage one comes to mind. The brick houses one and the one-legged table also seemed a little odd to me. Actually... on second examination those are the only ones that struck me as weird. The others I chose either as wild guesses, or because I really liked the mental picture or essence (or, in the case of the Kargyaraa, I had no clue what a word meant, and so decided it was a good bet that it had a really cool essence ). As to the second question.... Good point. I think that would depend on each person. For me, if an essence strikes me as profound then I label it as 'having a lot of essence'. | This is what the Khargyraa in throat singing is referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCom9ZCJAmE&feature=related I think the ones that struck you as weird were the only ones that seemed ordinary to me. Except the sausage one, I can see why that would seem weird, but it is actually a connection of two things that stand out in my own mind, and so would be seen differently by some one else. The Song of Solomon mentions wine that makes the mouths of them that are asleep to speak, and C. S. Lewis describes in the end of the Silver Chair, "...and the hissing, and delicious smell of sausages, and more, and more, and more sausages. And not wretched sausages either, full of bread and soya bean, but real meaty, spicy ones, fat and piping hot and burst and just the tiniest bit burnt." The two came together in that element. | |
