This may not be really theological...please don't mind if I'm in the wrong place! :)

What are the designations of the terms Spirit, Mind, Soul, and Body?

I've heard that people are composed of those three (I think it's usually stated as Mind, Body, and Soul/Spirit) sections.

But I see in essence mapping, Emeth separates Soul and Spirit?

What's the difference? Where does personality fit in? How do I know what goes into each section on an essence map? And who made up these terms anyway? :) I don't get it at all. :)

Look up Hebrews 4:12. It refers to the "soul" and the "spirit" as things which can be separated. I'll come back and post about the Strongs article on each word. This computer doesn't have a well formatted Strongs.

There are tons of different 'inner parts' to us. People have tried to define them in a dizzying array of often contradictory ways. It is a hard task.

There are also the Reins (in Hebrew it is the same word as 'kidneys'): which is more or less the throne of your decisions: your axioms and your assumptions.

There is your Heart: your meditator, the treasure where you store up good and bad things, where you draw from to provide strength in your actions.

There is your Brain: your physical thinker, when you memorize Scripture, you are not hiding it in your heart (you need to meditate on it to do that), you are storing it in your Brain. This is good, and very important, but not the same as meditating.

There is your Persona, or Personality: your makeup of emotional, physical, and mental (brain) preferences.

The difference between your Soul and Spirit is hard to define, because each has multiple meanings and uses, some of which overlap.

But there is your Nephesh life: you are alive. Animals have this too.

There is your individual Spirit: which goes to heaven and receives a glorified Body.

There are also terms which refer to two or more of these working in combination., such as your Will: the combination of your Heart and Reins.

That is the best I can do off the top of my head. :)

That is a great job of showing the differences in our 'inner parts' and much better than I could do.

What about the mind? I understand that the mind and brain are separate, but they seem to me to also be the same thing even thought they are different. The mind and brain both gain knowledge and wisdom, but the brain is physical and the mind is not. Would the mind simply be a part of the brain or is it the other way around.

Sorry if that got confusing! :D

It's like software and hardware. Our "mind" is software, so to speak, while our brain is the hardware. The brain "hosts" the mind, if you will, but they exist separately.
