If you don't like long hair and a goatee, you could try shorter hair and a beard...
But if you don't want any facial hair, then he could be clean shaven and have short hair...the only thing with that is you might want to give him some kind of reason for shaving and getting his hair cut (or cutting it himself) so often...to avoid head lice perhaps?
