So lots of HWers have used essence mapping to map the essence of their characters. Now I have a challenge for experienced and beginner essence mappers alike: Make an essence map for a character from a book other than your own. It can be a major character or minor character, popular book or less well-known book. Fantasy characters would be fun since this is a fantasy forum...but it's not an absolute must. You can either do a FirstX, X+, or freestyle maps. You can post your finished essence map in the appropriate subforum depending what type of map it is (FirstX, X+, or freestyle) and then post the link in this thread. You can also use this thread to post characters that you'd really like to see essence maps of. Hope to see some great essence maps come from this!
And who knows....some of the maps from these might give me inspiration for new artworks ;)

So I'll go ahead and post some characters that a lot of HWers would probably like to see:
Pippin
Merry
Gandalf
Frodo
Aragorn
Smeagol/Gollum
Arwen
Elrond
Legolas
Gimli
(You get the point, LOTR character essence maps would be pretty popular around here)

I, personally think Tom Bombadil would be a fun one.

Some non-LOTR characters that I'd like to see are:
Aslan and Lucy from Narnia
Joraiem, Valzaan, Benjiah, Rulalin and Aljeron from the Binding of the Blade series
Mary Poppins from the Mary Poppins books by P. L. Travers
Merlin from La Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Mallory
The Monster from Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

This is a great thread! I, for one, love the freestyle essence maps. I have been really shy about attempting any of the firstX maps because I figured I would do them all wrong. But now, I think I'm going to start trying to figure out how to do firstX maps with the handy-dandy tutorials.

I look forward to seeing people read and learn firstX with me. I mean, what's the point of having these amazing tutorials if nobody actually uses them? :D

EDIT: Here's the beginning of an essence map of Aslan I did:

Aslan

Personality:
Friendly: glowing lighthouse set before crashing waves
Kind: hand reaching down to help someone up
Majestic: tall mountain outlined by the brightness of the sun

Hey Seer,
I would really like to map Lucy from Narnia - she's one of my favorite characters from that series. I'll be back soon with a map (freestyle, most likely, or SEM) :D

I'm going to have to make an essence for Beorn once I start character fractalling him again. But before then I'll make a few essences on Legend of Zelda characters to practice. :D

*someone kick me if I don't do this in a few weeks* :P

I think I'm brave enough to take up this challenge. I'll attempt making a map of Janet from Twenty and Ten. I'll post my map sometime next week! Thanks for the challenge, Seer!

I do have an essence map that is first draft done (you've seen it ;)) and three others that I need to finish (all four of them Beorn characters), but none that are someone else's character...

On the other hand... writing up essence maps for other Zelda characters (and rewriting the Happy Mask Salesman) would be fun... :D

If you want me to concentrate on my projects, then it would be best if I didn't do those ;), but I might dabble a little if I'm bored/don't have my primary projects with me/need a brief change of scenery (err... projects ;)).

Point taken, my friend. But I could make the same argument concerning TTF ;)
