I have a character who will be going through an immense amount of grief in her story. A very close friend of hers who has known her since childhood will be killed in battle. SHe doesn't know it yet until his body is brought back to camp. Before then, she's so nervous she can't think straight. But when she is told he's dead, she breaks down.

Problem is, I haven't been through anything like that. Her grief needs to be immense, but I don't want it to be overboard. Any ideas?

I dont think very many people have gone through that. I haven't. But in my book the characters are in love, and I've never been in a relationship let alone love but I've seen people who are in love and even though you don't really know what they're feeling, you do. If that makes any sense. Find someone who's hurting like that, observe them, talk to them and then maybe go back to your book. I hope this helps! :) Check out my book if you want!------>
