| Post subject: | Playlist Requests |
| In sort of the same niche as my other thread, Music to write/type by, I'm creating this topic for those of you who would like to request playlists (made by the official Holy Worlds Jukebox Princess *bows gracefully*) in certain moods to write by. I had this idea while I was building up my Epic Sad playlist, and I realized how few people listen to my collections because they don't know about them. And (I might be blowing my own horn here, but *shrug*) I think they could be really useful. So. Request away. To the best of my knowledge, none of my playlist songs have inappropriate pictures on them, though it's hard to get epic music otherwise sometimes. Ask for specific moods (happy, tragic, angry, dark/creepy), specific artists (Two Steps from Hell, Audiomachine, Hans Zimmer), specific movie soundtracks, specific story events (battles, endings), whatever! And I can make them on Grooveshark as well for those poor people without access to Youtube. *coughElanhilcougheruheran* And if this should be in General Discussion, somebody let me know. Even though this is my forum. | |

| Future World Music has a lot of good ones that plan off of emotions very well. You didn't mention it above so I thought I'd remind you. And I'd ask for playlists, but... I've already got quite a collection of my own. My personal favorites are the victory and chase ones. Who'd think victories could sound so bittersweet? | |

| Here's your Folk playlist, Redwing! (If anyone has more suggestions for artists or songs, let me know. I'm a little scarce on my folk resources. ) Folk And here, Shawn and eruheran, is your Anguish/Grief/Sorrow/Struggle Grooveshark playlist. I wish I had more, but, likewise, my Grooveshark resources are scarce. They don't have very much TSFH at all... *pathetic face* Suggestions please! I'll be updating this one later, probably. Somebody poke me. Anguish/Grief/Sorrow/Struggle Next on the list: Discovery Travel Mystery Falling in Love Enchanted has kind of a bad connotation, Evenstar. Almost creepy. Falling in love is different. I look forward to doing that one. | |

| Lady Eruwaedhiel wrote: If anyone has more suggestions for artists or songs, let me know. I'm a little scarce on my folk resources. (There is "folk music" beyond the subgenres of "Celtic" and "folk rock" ... You might have more success with the keyword "traditional.") The one artist (well, band) that leaps to mind (that you'll be able to find on Youtube, anyway) is Nickel Creek. I don't like nearly as much of their later stuff (starting a little before the album Why Should the Fire Die), when they started turning from "folk" into "folk rock" but based on what you've included in these playlists you'll probably like just about everything they've done. (And note that the band broke up and the members went on to solo careers: their names are Sean and Sara Watkins and Chris Thile.) Another band I like some of (but that is often a lot louder than I'd prefer) is Over the Rhine. Some smaller (more independent) artists you probably won't find on Youtube but you might find on some "Internet radio" or streaming service, and which I recommend: Ruffwater String Band Bob Hubbach RíRá (the album we have, which I love, is "Mischevious Merriment" Maddy Prior (especially her collaborations with The Carnival Band) Golden Griffon Stringtet Mark Wade Rick Thum Kaiser Family Band and so on ... | |

| Lady Eruwaedhiel wrote: Although, I'm not sure how the ones that can't be found on Youtube will help, since the playlists are Youtube playlists. a) You're doing Grooveshark playlists too; I have no experience whatsoever with that service, but I'd guess that obscure artists might be more likely to be found there than on Youtube. b) Note that I said you "probably" won't find them on Youtube. They're small enough artists that the major uploaders haven't heard of them . But a few of them (Kaiser Family Band, for example), I had forgotten, make Youtube videos of their concerts. One artist/band I forgot that's sort of in the middle between the two groups: Carrie Crompton and the Barolk Folk. Her/their album of arrangements of Bach dances is (from what I remember from when I went looking for it) more or less easily found, but their album "Joy after Sorrow" wasn't mentioned anywhere. Oh, and while I'm here I'll mention that when I was at the Evart Funfest (the major festival in the subset of the folk music world with which I am most familiar), there was a local guy wandering around taking lots and lots of videos of jams and workshops: linky. And another favorite artist of mine (though decidedly not folk) that you can undoubtedly find a use or somewhere: Sixpence None The Richer, and (as it broke up a while ago, though I seem to recall a reunion somewhat recently?) its (former?) lead singer Leigh Nash. | |

| Post subject: | Re: Playlist Requests |
| *nods* Glad you like them. I usually take one song per scene, unless there are a lot with similar themes (like from a movie soundtrack) that I can use. For example, to write/edit the rhemalyse scene I use Mind Heist by Zack Hemsey (Youtube Grooveshark). Over and over. For the first battle scene (that I posted in the Fireside) I used Budget Meeting by Hans Zimmer (Youtube Grooveshark). Over and over. For the second battle and the Black Moment, I used Black Blade by Two Steps from Hell (Youtube Grooveshark). Over and over. Ya get me? Those are some of my absoulte favorites. Listen to them. That's an order. 'Course, it might be different for you. You might want to have several songs per scene or one part of one song over and over for one scene or whatever. So if it doesn't work for you at first, try something different. Try a different genre. Whatever works for you! I would recommend something for writing with one song per scene like I do: make sure you're well acquainted with the song and the scene before beginning. It doesn't usually work well for me when I A) don't know what's happening in the scene and B) don't know the song very well. To get a really good scene/song mesh, I will listen to the song a few times (five or ten, usually) and imagine what's happening. Then when I write it just seems to flow right out. Also, there are some scenes that I can't find a specific song for. With those, if I really need music at that point, I generally use some "background" songs: A Hole in the Sun by Two Steps from Hell (Youtube) Sidyana by Two Steps from Hell (Youtube) The Game Has Changed by Daft Punk (Grooveshark Youtube) Disc Wars (Grooveshark Youtube) Those are more of my favorites. Listen to them too. Okay, end of a lot of stuff you probably didn't want to hear. | |

| All right, I found more fodder for my Travel list than I thought I would. Here we are, nice and plump with 17 videos: Travel The Wonder/Discovery/Mystery playlist I'm slightly less happy with. I found more of the Discovery/Wonder type (light-hearted) than the Mystery (darker and - well - mysterious), I'm afraid, but I figure if you find a couple good songs you can play them over and over. Wonder/Discovery/Mystery Keep in mind that I update these as I find new music, so keep checking in. Any more Grooveshark requests? Vanya... Ay yi yi... I'll see what I can find. But I'm afraid I won't be able to get you much outside Devil Wears Nada, TSfH's Romantic Comedy album. We'll see. | |
