Here's an essence I did for a new character, Ciarra:

Mind...{Turmoil...[......(A thunderstorm just beginning)
..............................(An abused child)]}
.........{Clarity....[......(A polluted river: once it was clear, but now it is dirty and brown.)]}
.........{Depth.....[......(A spring)
...............................(A really good book: there is always something new to discover)]}
.........{Thoughts..[Despair...(Winter at Valley Forge)
...............................(A day without sunshine)]
.......................[Hope...(The book of Isaiah)
...............................(The chirping of birds in the morning)
...............................(A rainbow against dark clouds)]}

Soul...{Enduring...[.....(The promise of a true friend)
..............................(The faith of Job)]}
........{Light........[.....(Music played flawlessly)
..............................(Motherly compassion and kindness)
..............................(A bright candle in a dark room)]}
........{Distress....[.....(A dying flame)
..............................(Fire without oxygen)]}

Spirit...{Beauty.....[Kindness...(A prayer for an enemy)
........................[Gentleness..(Moonlight Sonata)]}
.........{Fear.......[.......(Hiding in the shadows)
................................(Darkness closing in around her)]

Body...{Eyes.......[Color..(A brewing thunderstorm)
..................................(Silvery Grey)]
........................[Sadness...(Long suffering)
.......................................(Years of abuse)
........................[Caution...(Remembrance)]
........................[Depth.....(A bottomless pit)
......................................(The horizon: it seems close, but you can never get there)]}
..........{Hair.......[Color...(A raven)
..................................(The midnight sky)]
..........{Motion...[Fluidity...(A mountain stream)]
.......................[Speed....(An Arabian horse)]

What do y'all think?

I really like all the Biblical references you did. It really gives a lot of depth to it!

Great job Abby!
I like the thunderstorm references.
Thunderstorms are one of my favorites in God's creation.
(If I didn't have a full time job as a mom of four I'd be a storm chaser!)

I think this is my favorite line:
Spirit...{Beauty.....[Kindness...(A prayer for an enemy)
THAT'S a beautiful spirit!

I also think the hope of the chirping birds in the morning is picturesque.

She sounds like such a mixture of hope and despair.
Very conflicted. :) Not so good in real life,
but great for a main character!

The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.

All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear... We cannot tell each other about it. It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want . . . which we shall still desire on our deathbeds . . . ~C.S. Lewis

Thanks everyone!

A mixture of hope and despair is what is was going for, White Raven! It does make an interesting character. :)

I think it is finished now (even though it took a while). I need to post it.
