A left-over from the bio-engineering days of the 1st Advanced Period, _____ are the only non-sentient creature capable of inter-stellar travel. Capable of absorbing all needed chemicals through their skin, these dragon-like bio-mechanical creature operate not on oxygen but far more common nitrogen, as well as various carbons. These creatures are rare (because they cannot reproduce) and are currently hunted by well paid tribal members as they pose a significant threat to the few surviving human populations.

Bred from the now extinct dragons, these creatures were enhanced by mechanical and processing parts, while their DNA was altered to accept and learn to use the parts. Their cognitive powers are high enough to allow forms of language, but these creature must not be mistaken as sentient. These parts are computer parts which respond to programming and actually "program" the organic parts of the brain as well, making these creature almost robotic.

This really isn't a sci-fi. This world simply had several stages, one more advanced. Sci-fi takes place in the future, not in another world.

Because Sci-fi actually takes place in the real world: It's actually just fiction with a science twist. My story takes place in an entirely different world, and it has Cobha, something Sci-fi lacks.

Since Sci/fi is defined as "a form of fiction that draws imaginatively on scientific knowledge and speculation in its plot, setting, theme, etc." SW probably falls under Sci/fi.

However, my world will only draw on science in "setting", so, not so much a Sci/fi, as it is a hybrid. I actually prefer to blur the lines a bit...now that I think about it. ;)

This means they can fly through like space? SHUWEET!

That's pretty sweet! Comes in handy on other planets, I'd imagine. :)

Neat twist. When they die... they die. Coolness.

Diggin' the combination of fantasy and sci-fi. Too cool, man. :)

Pretty original creature, I'd say.

Pretty cool! I love it! Nice imagination, this is really creative.

Just a few questions, though. If they don't reproduce, then where did they come from? Were they created with the bio-mechanical parts, or were those added to them? What tribes do they interact with?

Great job on these! I can't wait to learn more. :D

Cloning and genetic reconstruction play a large part in the background of this story, and these creature are no exception.

They were designed around these parts, they did not exist before the bio-mechanical period.

Actually... I don't know.

That's great, I honestly think we don't have enough Christian authors in that field, and Science Fantasy is one of the most popular genres out there. It would be great if you chose to make that your domain. :D

Well, I kind of consider science-fantasy and fantasy to be the same thing...just different traditional technology levels.

But it's still not sci/fi, which must take place in the actually world.

I don't intend to favor any one genre. I find authors who do so gain temporary popularity while they live, but when the die, nobody remembers their books! I want people to read my books long ages after my death. (Provided, of course, that there are long ages after my death.)

That is one cool creature! Are they a sort of cyborg? And is it possible to re-program them somehow?

You also need a name for them! I'll throw in my ideas:

Forg - mix between fire and cyborg
Chrysophylax - Greek for "gold-guard"
Lurkers - reflecting on the fact that I imagine these creatures to have espionage characteristics.

Take or leave them. Although, I would like to see you give them espionage qualities. I imagine them as hunters or assassins.

They are cyborg... in the sense that they are cyber. However, most non-processing-mechanical-parts within the creature are actually nano-technology called (I believe) synthetic muscle. A synthetic muscle a few millimeters thick has the strength to push an entire compact car off the ground for an indefinite period of time.

Programming is impossible since the only technology currently in use is iron-age at best.

I actually plan to give them a name in the language of the planet they have the highest population density.

That's a good point I hadn't considered. Since they are programed to follow orders, and have no personal desire of their own (their mechanical-ness suppresses the survival instinct), they may be a very useful tool for those who know how to bring them to their side.

They aren't named because I feel no linguistic creativity at the moment. :?
