That's great that you decided to go for the other parts of a character's essence! Mind, soul, and spirit are really more important anyway. :D

I think that Inesdar's essence is amazing! You did a really great job coming up with metaphors. I liked the one about the labyrinth especially.

Actually Inesdar, I think you've hit it!
While you CAN use essence to describe a character's physical appearance
that isn't where it really shines.
You can describe the physical with much less effort by using typical descriptors.
He was short, wiry, and dark complexioned. She had blue eyes and red hair.

What you can't describe very well is the soulishness of a person!
He was ... shy or funny or intelligent.
Those words describe him but don't really show us what he was like.

Let me tell ya what shows us what he was really like:
"There was a longing in his soul like a whisper from the past.
His spirit felt battered like weathered stone
continuously exposed to furious storms."

Ah! Now that we can understand. I KNOW that man. :)
I can "feel" him and his struggles.
What's more I am tied to him much more than
someone who is described simply as 'wistful' or 'broken'
which would be two words that could be used
to sum up those two essence aspects that you've provided for him.

Great job!

The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.

All the things that have deeply possessed your soul have been but hints of it—tantalising glimpses, promises never quite fulfilled, echoes that died away just as they caught your ear... We cannot tell each other about it. It is the secret signature of each soul, the incommunicable and unappeasable want . . . which we shall still desire on our deathbeds . . . ~C.S. Lewis

I really like it! You did a lot of very creative and helpful metaphors there. White Raven hit it dead on.

Great job, Inesdar!

I love how all of those metaphors blend together into your character, its just so deep and rich and discriptive . . . :)
Believe me, I did my essence map before I really understood how most of it worked as well. I'm still scared to try to map the depth of the character so descriptively, but I really like how you went head on and did it anyway.

My favorite metaphor was the pure as silver tried by fire. That was beautiful. :D

Reposting this since it was lost:
Great job. I could actually see him in my mind as I read your essence map, something that doesn't happen when I read other essence maps.
Your metaphors were refreshing.
Great Job!!!!!!
