| Disclaimer: Just want to point out that this is not a tutorial for essence (for that, I'd recommend this link). You have been warned: enter at your own risk So, I was thinking the other day. Naturally, my thoughts drifted to web design. I started thinking about all the principles we apply in making a web page have a visual hierarchy: proximitiy, size, color, shape, etc. Then I started thinking: why in the world can't we apply this to essence mapping as well? Let me clarify that Basically, what I'm thinking of is a more graphical representation of an essence map, created in a graphics software like Photoshop or Fireworks. A graphical essence map would use the above principles to create a cluster (sort of like a wordle...see this thread) of the phrases in the essence map with a more graphical representation of the total essence. If I've thoroughly confused you, I apologize. Hopefully I can write one of these up within a week and post it on here to show what I mean a little bit better eru | |

| OK, here's an example I just made up from my Samarqand essence map. Hopefully this will explain things better Attachment:

| Neat job, Eru! It reminds me of wordles. (Yes, I'm pretty sure that's how it's spelled, to you editors. ) | |

| Thanks, Milly! It reminds me of a wordle too, only a little bit more random and all the words are right-side up. eru | |

| I love this idea, Eruheran! Absolutely love it. Can you figure out a way to incorporate something like the tag, though, from X+? | |

| Hm. I was thinking that if we went into X+ some of the finer differentiations would be harder to incorporate in this. I'll give some thought to it, though. eru | |

| This editor has heard of wordles, yes. I really like the visual nature of this. It appeals to me much more than all those straight rows and columns essence maps normally display. I had no trouble following the colors and sizes to differentiate each level. I think it allows the mind to see the whole character at once and make different connections rather like branching/mindmapping methods for outlining. Then again, I'm so an artist not a programmer. | |
