Post subject:  Mixing Sci-fi with Fantasy?

I am writing a story where Sci-fi and Fantasy collide. I am not quite sure what will happen after what I have happens. In the story a girl named Lana finds a book. Once she opens the book her skin starts to hurt and cuts appear on them. She quickly gets better but it spreads to her brother. He dies and then the whole world gets it for some reason. (It spreads quickly.)

There is a picture of a log cabin in the book with a person looking out of it. Lana ends up being the only survivor on the Earth. I am not sure what to do after that.

Does anyone have any suggestions on new characters or anything? I am trying to think whether new colonies of aliens come. (One reason I did not put this on the Sci-Fi HW is because I was not sure where to put it since it is both.)

Post it on both, Arwen, :) then you get ideas off both sides! :)

Why is she the only survivor? So I take it that's the end of the human race then?

Well, she has some protection from the book somehow. I still need to figure that out.

I just brainstormed with Inesdar in chat about this. She will not be the only survivor. There will be 9 other books like this and will have 9 other caretakers for the books. Each will have 2 children with them that will be destined to become a new race that serves the villain. One reason for all the deaths of the people of the Earth is to satisfy a requirement to achieve the book that will change the children once they are all gathered at the cabin.
Somehow Lana stops this from happening. I can feel all of the suspense in all of this. I am not sure where all of the fantasy and sci-fi come in all of this.
