| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Latest update: Stalled, for now. Debating whether or not to rewrite everything I have. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm creating this thread because I am officially embarking on a new project, and I want some accountability and encouragement (oh yeah, and some help) along the way. The calm one. The wild one. The soft one. The suspicious one. Four princesses, tucked away in a castle by their parents to protect them from a civil war, are about to have their world cracked in two. In one night their supposedly secret location is stormed, and the sisters are forced to begin to traverse a land they know little about while fleeing for their lives. Very soon they learn a terrible fact: it is the rebels, not the royal family, who are in the right. So far, all I have are some outline ideas and a chapter written when I was. . . I don't know how young. Alrightly, items on my schedule: #1: Find a name for the novel. Seriously, I've had this story bopping around in my head for several years, and I've never found name for it. And I usually love creating names. As it is, any suggestions? | |

| A name for the title, the characters, the world, or all of the above, Kathrine? I love names too, so I'd love to help! *coming from someone who couldn't start writing a fifty-word story without finding the right name for a character* | |

| Oops! I was a little rushed when I was writing that as well as a tad excited about announcing my new baby. I meant novel. I'll wait on naming the world until I'm developing the world. The girlies all have names, and I hope to show everyone an essence map of the dears sometimes. Wow. . . I'm more likely to name characters whatever I think of at the moment I'm writing when it comes to short stories or flash fiction. I'm a panster, you see. | |

| Wow, Kath, this is such a cool idea! You have to be careful that the reader is just as surprised as the princesses are when they learn the truth, of course, so they won't come off as dumb, but when you pull it off, it will be quite an awesome and unique premise. I basically pick a random name that sounds good, and don't feel the need to make one up. | |

| I think a good title could be the name of the kingdom {whatever that may turn out to be}. Possibly - since I'm a big fan of one-word titles, and since these rebels play a large part in the story - something like "Rebellion" or the proper name of the rebels might also work. Or, along a different track, is there an important place in the story? Something like "Beyond the Castle Gate" {except less cheesy}? Or you could choose two special objects in the story, like "The Sword and the Key." Hopefully that got your creative juices running! ~ Dawn | |

| *dances back into this thread and dusts everything* Guess what I'm do-ing! I'm taking the 100 Themes Challenge (viewtopic.php?f=34&t=4198&), and creating Flight from it. About a theme per scene. AND IT'S WORKING! I'm in the middle of the outline now. When I finish I'll post it here. I think Flight will be my NaNoWriMo novel. | |

| Post subject: | Re: Steampunk Mermaids & Sentient Flying Daggers: Wish Fligh |
| Ha! "Keeping you guys posted." Well, a lot of you knew Wish Flight was my NaNo novel. I've finished 30k on it so far. I also have a new synopsis. Quote: Four princesses have been raised by their mother kept separate from their war-ravaged country. One night, the very night they received word their father is dead, their supposedly-secret location is stormed, their castle burnt to the ground, and their mother captured. They are left alone in a country they know nothing about. Only one place is truly safe: their aunt and uncle's lands many miles away, far out of the reach of the soldiers who will hunt them. A quiet man with secrets hidden in a shapeshifting key is the only one willing to guide them across a war-ravaged country, but can they trust a self-described rebel? A few things about the plot have changed: ~The reveal that the rebels are the good guys comes a lot more slowly (so it wouldn't be something I would want the reader to understand just from having read the synopsis). How does this feel? ~Rogalian is now a main character and the POV shifts between him and the eldest of the princesses, so he needed mention in the synopsis. ~Magic is becoming more important to the plot, so his shapeshifting key also needed to be worked in. Interestingly, I think I worked in a ploy I hate and used it correctly. The "asking a question at the end of the synopsis" ploy. Usually those questions are so. obviously. obvious. But I think the one I used is a legit question and not automatically answerable. | |

| I like the new synopsis better. Even though it conceals the awesome plot twist, that is good thing. Or else it would be a spoiler. | |

| Post subject: | Re: Steampunk Mermaids & Sentient Flying Daggers: Wish Fligh |
| I was slightly worried it would look like a "strong young princess saves her kingdom against the odds" story without including that twist, but it was just to big a reveal. I hope there are different "grabbing" parts to the synopsis now instead of the twist. | |
